I don't think Omega weapon will stay unresolved for that long. We will definitely deal with it during the 3.x cycle.

That red Sphinx-Ixal-hybrid could very well be a minor "weapon"; a prototype weapon tasked in protecting that weird core?
Well the theme of the first expansion was between flying and swimming. If swimming is the next, it might have Emerald Weapon. So flying leaves us with Jade Weapon.

See, I have a completely different tack on what is concealed within that facility. I think it is one of the Seven Celestial dragons, captured and augmented by the Allagans. That the reason for the Dragon's hate/mistrust of man traces back to the Allagan, and they offer us a chance to clear humanity's name by freeing this creature.

Yup, I was already considering something along those lines:

The dreadknights in the binding coil could very well be the culmination of that research and the Ixal we know in Eorzea escaped the Floating Continent at some point and fled to the ground below. If this were the case then the creature bound within that sphere may well be the dragon they were created from.
I think that would make the most sense given the limited information we have at the moment. Most of this will probably be laughably incorrect after a plot twist or two though.
