I did say I missed the warnings, but I do not think it was entirely on me. I'll probably just have to give support a while and then just block payment if they attempt billing. Not like I was going to be able to use it, and it's cancelled now anyways.
It is in bold letters, the Notice part, anyway... What more could they had done to help you see it?

The issue with accounts being locked to steam forever is a steam issue, not SE. If you read your user agreement with steam it says you cannot ever play games you buy through steam off of steam. Heavensward is considered dlc on an existing game so you are bound to steam forever.

Ok, first off, I remember specifically making sure I was selecting the right platform. So, I didn't just skim through and miss it, I was therw for a bit. That notice should come up when you select the PC version, and not be a little note under the synopsis of the game. Not exactly the right place to put that thing so everyone notices. Second, "If you read the user agreement". I thought it was pretty much a joke by now that no one reads those things. And why would we? We just want to get to our games and skip through the pseudo-contract garbage that we already know pretty much says we're giving our souls away and that we are the now the playthings of big corporations. The part that says we can't play non-steam games off of steam is interesting, though. Steam runs the launcher and handles the cd key, so I still don't get how an account, handled by Square that is upgraded to allow Heavnsward to be installed and played in-game, is Steam's duty at all.

Thing's just a mess. Yeah, I didn't read the only notice I would've seen, but it wasn't exactly in a place that noticeable, that being where the synopsis is. I guess if you read the synopsis, you'd see it, but I probably already knew what it was. And I did check that extremely long post telling you how to activate each version, so it's their fault for not putting it at the tops of each PC version guide as well. We're both at fault.

    This isn't true.

With MMO Games, there is a dedicated launcher that is bound to the steam client. It still runs the exact same game client (on windows.) They change only the launcher. But because steam has introduced region locks/price-discrimination, you can't buy the US version and use it in Europe for example. Likewise with the PSN.

The Launcher is what checks what version to download and what patches to use (eg steam or non-steam) and all that steam patches is the launcher when needed.

This is unique to MMO's only. Other multiplayer types of games usually forgo the launcher because there is no billing/cash shop involved.

I was just pointing out what is in the Steam user agreement.
