Key difference: He's not on the dev team. His comment doesn't carry the same weight. So if he doesn't say annything, who cares? But if a dev won't say anything, then we have no clue what's going on on their side.

Their comments carrying weight is more reason for them not to respond. Dev responses are practically considered gospel. They need to make sure the plan is set in stone before putting it in a comment. When devs go back on stuff that they've confirmed there is a lot of (reasonable) backlash.
A dev has to be professional, they can't afford to just toss their opinion into the mix unless they know that position is also supported by the rest of the company, which takes time and coordination.
tldr; people on the forums need to chill
When in doubt, assume sarcasm

Do we need a daily play by play report of everything they are doing? As far as I'm concerned, SE does not "owe" us any replies. What they do choose to comment on is entirely up to them and is a bonus, act of good faith. You dont like it now. you would have hated 1.0's team.
At at the same token, thanks for explaining to me exactly why they shouldnt even bother commenting at all. "His comment doesn't carry the same weight. So if he doesn't say annything, who cares?" Exactly, so why should they reply?
