It has nothing to do with the new players at all. It's funny you bring that up. Every time old content gets nerfed so new or struggling players can catch up, people reacted so violently that they wanted to throw new players under the bus because "they should learn and suffer like us veterans". Now there's a 180 going on here for 3.0 with people saying "WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE NEW PLAYERS!?"
I like how not [I might be missing some posts here...] a single new player hasn't complained about it but the people who completed it are using new folks as a defence.
Why? You tell me lmao.

Because new players will only join for Heavensward, and they'll love the game for all the content it provides![]()

Well in XI's defense, each expansion had a different scenario. One quest I remember was tied to both RotZ and CoP was Apocalypse Nigh. In order to do that quest, you had to have beaten both those expansions because it drew conclusion to both expansions.
Exactly. No one gave two hoots about new players back then and now suddenly they want to coddle them more than the Echo ever will. Even on another gaming site I visit, one of the writers blogged the same "new players" defense card while completely glossing over how old content would give more EXP and can be done with an incomplete party.
What's the big deal? I finished the main scenario from ultima to stairs in a day and half skipping every line of dialogue and cutscene on my alts. I'm tired of the call of duty crowd coming in and trying to redefine the mmo genre. Want instant 50's and the ability to max out every job and gear to 130 I level on all jobs in 1-2 days. It is a mmo. It's a roleplaying based game with levels and gearing. Just play the damn game and stop trying to ruin the genre I love. You will complain about nothing to do after you complain about it takes to long to do stuff.

Because they didn't join the game yet. As I told a folk who was using that as an argument (and created a thread about it), let the new players complain by themselves. Which I don't think they will (Maybe just a couple because, you know, people). As for people complaining NOW, they have/had plenty of time to catch up. They're truly a minority but they are lousy. Since there're a lot of people who disagree with them and they know it's an FF game, which is an story-driven game per se, you'll see these threads crowded with replies about how it was actually a good move on SE part.

Actually, no...
RotZ was tied to FFXI vanilla, and you had to do the main quest until rank 5 to unlock it, BUT, RotZ is also the reason why you're allowed to enter Norg in the first place, yet, you could walk there freely to unlock NIN and SAM.
As for CoP, it's whole plot is started by the end of RotZ, they just don't mention it until very late in the story.
Ok, I get the whole "do the story to get to ishgard because it's kinda important" thing. But can we just make it so that the story is account wide instead of people having to unlock everything over and over again when logging in to alts? I know, I know you can do everything on one toon. BUT some people, like myself level different races for alts. Don't need to see the main quest again or even see the intro again.
3 expansion down the road when new players want to play with their friends, they will have to go through all the old content just to play the new expansion. I don't think that's a smart move at all tbh.
And I just moved my guild from wow to this game, they love it. But they also hate it. Why? because people want to play with their friends! but they are forced to go through the massive amount gating instead of quickly catching up and play with me through raids and other end game stuff.
I'm not saying hand everything to them on a platter.
I'm saying make it so that we have "options"
Forcing players to go down into one play style is never good for a game. Just look at SWTOR. Their game was when you finish the story level alts. (At launch) and see how that tanked.
Because not wanting to deliver letters pick up tea or collect flowers at max level with out any form of xp reward is wanting something handed to them?
