They won't be able to touch certain nodes (and likely, certain recipes) without Ishgard access..
No they aren't. Look at how much they've put into the progression system for crafter's/gatherer's, they even implemented an entire Beast Tribe to them.

No, I'd rather not. It wouldn't make sense in the story and if you want to skip the story in a game then final fantasy is not the series for you.
Furthermore it lock away a lot of content that would be too difficult for inexperienced players. Currently the bears in dravania pose a threat to people who cleared steps of faith, which has a minimum item level of 100 I think? or maybe 110? I don't think fresh 50-s with artifact armor and a below 50 item level would enjoy the scenery that much
And there are the classes. I have ran ex roulette with people I wouldn't trust with the responsibility of handling a complex class like machinist or astrologian.
So, no I think the lockout is fine the way it is.
Seriously tho to the OP, you are level fifty with a turn 2 drop which means you are at end game. It would take you a whole day and a half to get thru the story or very casually you could do it by the end of this weekend. It really isn't that much work that people are making it out to be.
Not every suggestion is for the individual posting it*
Themepark MMO with a strong emphasis on story*
Also, it could easily make sense to border-cross prior to MSQ completion.
A certain racial group border-crosses into the U.S. in droves, daily & they integrate well enough (ethics aside).

Uh no, FF14 is a story based game, entering before MSQ doesn't make sense to the established story so No.
There's a really easy solution to that problem. Don't play alts. There's no need to play one so anything you don't enjoy as a result of playing an alt is something you're forcing on yourself, it's not the game's fault.I feel sorry for new players who have to go through the entire main quest just to get into the expansion.
I have done the mainquest 3 times with my 3 characters and for someone who doesn't enjoy the story at all it's worse than farming relic weapons.
I'm serious I'd rather farm relic for all jobs than doing the main quest 3 times.
Soo yes I agree with you, they need to find some way to skip it
Oh yes, because allowing newer players the chance to try out some of the content the new expansions pack brings is so extreme.
SE should really hang a sign on Heavensward saying "NO NEWBS ALLOWED".
But the game still focuses on story and combat.
That's what I meant. You either grit your teeth or don't.
If you don't wanna level up a job, this game isn't for you sadly.
New players have a higher chance of actually following the story. Botters on the other hand, will either A) have to manually level their bot to get to the better materials/crafting/farming or make a bot program to do it (and thus taking longer since some story is tied to dungeons.)
@OP: You are playing a story driven game, expect the story to impede some aspects of that game.
