Take a hyur, pull the ears longer, watch them get skinnier, poof, pretty much an Elezen at that point. Even height isn't an issue, as my Elezen female is shorter than most highlander hyurs. Seems to me the it-looks-the-same argument can be applied to most of the races as they are all distinctly humanoid.

So I'll cast my vote for Viera too. If nothing else, it might thin the Miqo herd a little.

I also think it'd be neat if some of the beastmen races were playable, but at the same time I wonder if it'd take away some of the charm if there were dozens of moogles, sylphs and qiqirn running around. Goblins on the other hand... since they're already integrated into the cities, I could see them being an interesting choice. Haha. Especially if the player had to keep to the laws of gobbie names.

Of course this can get hard with gear models and such.
Making the gear models would be easier if they did stick to the Human-model base.

For Lorewise, they could easily do something like.

Moogles were born of the forest.

Garleans intrigued by their magic abilities captured them and performed experiments on them, cross breeding them to create a new race they simply call Mogs.

Mogs have highly Technological Ability but also have Geomancy powers that they can share with people.

Result?> Storyline Introduction of Moogle Based Race (Based off of the FFT appearance) Engineering(Crafting) and Archanist(Class)/Geomancer(Job) character choices.
Well SE has already increased the size of monsters without any lore. So in my opinion SE should just change the animation for the moogles I mean we only see them once how hard can it be. In addition while they are rare in the lore maybe in the future we will find there city-state and they will join our ranks. There is a ton of ways that SE can add moogles as a playable race.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

moogles or Mogs have been a final fantasy icon since the first three and have been remapped, reshaped, and reintroduced in almost every final fantasy.. they show one in this game which makes me hopeful for a playable mog avatar =)

But the one they show in this game is like a little bowling ball you can't play with that as a playable race lol.

thats why my suggestion included genetic engineering. They could be engineered and lets say, Cross bred with Lalafell the resulting new race of Mogs could look like the Moogles from FFXII/T/TA

Give only the Seekers of the Moons Bunny Ears, make them taller and more regal (like the Elezen).

Make only the Hellsguard completley covered in fur, thinner, with more robust like the Elvaans of Vana'diel.

Make only the Plainsfolk some kind of furry and give them bat/rabbit/mouse features.

There's your Viera, Ronso, and Moogle. Instead of being their own race, they could be one of the two sub-races for Roegadyn, Mi'qote, and Lalafel respectfully.

All those revisions would need their own animations, model retools, and so on. It'd be a lot more work than one new race, I know. But if Square is implying they're re-examining current playable races, let that be the focus. I just don't see why Highlanders can get their own model retools and the rest of the sub-races can't.
