This is a retread of an old topic to be sure, but maybe it would stop coming up so frequently if SE would take the hint and stop with the extreme double-standard gender lock on fashion.

I don't care if players want their male characters to run around in wedding dresses, much less more potentially androgynous outfits. If you really like the aesthetic, good for you; if you just want to do it for a laugh, there's certainly a precedent for that with all of the joke fashion pieces we already have in game.

It has nothing to do with characters or real people being gay, straight, bisexual, curious, pansexual, transgender, or anything at all. A lot of these pieces don't even make for convincing transvestism. I just find it somewhat unfair that female characters get so much special consideration when not all of us are that interested in dressing them up.

"I don't want men in dresses in this game" isn't really good reasoning because skirts are already available in game for men, so why aren't some of the dresses? Plus, no one's forcing them to wear dresses. It's no different than someone saying "I don't like buff women, they make me uncomfortable so take out Roegadyn and highlander women"

"Men don't look good in dresses" isn't very good reasoning either, I think the OP did a wonderful job showing otherwise without changing the job too much. Sure Roegadyn might look a bit weird, but it's hard to find a set that looks nice on Roegadyn dude, doesn't mean Roegadyn don't deserve armor sets though.

And "SE and Japanese culture doesn't like men in dresses" is also weird.. Because SE has Hildibrand in a dress, and already allows men in skirts already so they probably don't care. If they allow it as a joke, just allow it in general.

It's frustrating whenever people want something and people are being negative about it for little more than faulty reasoning or personal dislike.

Outfits are not gender specific. For a mere 10 dollars or hit the button to create a new character you can have the outfit. The option is already there because you can make both male and female characters. No one is holding you back and the only reason you want dresses on men is because people think bringing politics into a game is to troll people who play a game to get away from real life? That is the only thing I can come up with when the solution is already there in being able to create both male and female characters.

The real issue though is RMT. SE should focus more on making a game as cheat free as possible.

I am a straight, manly man. And I now want to do this IRL

Sorry on mobile at the moment.

The problem with the shots of the Roes so far is just the angle of the bodies/arms. If you look at my edit my character is actually angled to the side rather than straight on. The light color doesn't have to be identical as long as it's pretty bright (I actually took these at sunrise just before it turned stormy if it makes a difference) and from mostly the same angle (basically dead on.)

I'm throwing my voice in support of this. I doubt I'd use it (...well, maybe, you never know), but I'm all for allowing people to use it.

At the end of the day, XIV's usually really good about not having weird gender inequalities in its gear. Either stuff is available for everyone of all races/genders... or a gearset for one has a similarly-themed/roled equivalent for others (eg South Seas Talisman vs Sea Halter). I'd like to see that continue.

This isn't a feature I would use myself, but I have a hard time understanding why anyone would fight against it. I mean, this is an MMO, most people play females and lot of male characters wouldn't use it, so it wouldn't be a pandemic of men in dresses running around (not that I would even consider that a bad thing). This is the type of thing that makes no difference to someone who doesn't use it, and only brings joy to those who would.

    You have my vote.

I find it hard to believe you typed your post without laughing. There are outfits that are most certainly gender locked. Trying to bring up the ability of fantasia-ing your characther or starting a new one doesn't do anything but detract from the issue. The RMT bit as well is completely unrelated to the topic and just an offhanded detraction.

Actually, you're not. Most of this thread has been about directly converting female equipment to fit males, not making their own male version of it. Had it been the latter, I'd have happily added my support. Instead what people are doing is using this argument to attack other people who don't agree with their opinions. Much like the following quote.

Okay, stop. Seriously, just STOP. Using sexism as a weapon is just not on, and I abhor anyone who posts this rubbish without supporting their arguments thoroughly. It's tantamount to harassment to accuse people of being sexist simply for having their opinions.

While I commend your post for pointing out that not everyone is made equal, the term 'lifestyles' is widely used by LBGT as well as straight people in many different communities. There are far worse terms that could have been used, so calling some out as a 'bigot' for using the word only proves that person knows nothing about the subject they're arguing.

The reason it's considered a 'lifestyle' is because being gay, or straight is often not by choice but rather just doing what they feel is natural to them.

What's funnier in this whole argument is that many of my good LBGT friends also bawk at the idea of men in female outfits. Again, I need to reiterate there's nothing wrong with wanting more unique styles or even skirts and dresses for men, but they need to be designed specifically for the men, not reverse engineered from women's outfits.

If you want TRUE gender equality, does that mean that women should also get the tidal talisman top, which would essentially expose their bare breasts? I imagine several teenagers perked up at the idea, but I think most of us would want at least a bikini underneath it for modesty's sake. It's little distinctions like these which are the point I'm making.

Guys in dresses? Fine, no problem whatsoever. Just as long as they're designed to compliment them, not distract from them.
