I agree with the OP. It is very boring.

The ride is slow and boring. I have nothing to do but run around in circles, watching the weather. If no agro-like mobs are added, how about a quest that gives a bit of exp or items that requires us to do things on the boat, like tugging on lines to help change the direction of the sail. If you don't want to add mobs to attack, a quest to keep the boat afloat would work great, too.

Just something I was thinking of this past week.

What we have now is a watered down HD version of FFXI's boat ride. Only no monsters, no surprise no reason to really use more than once because you can teleport pass it. UHHHH.

The weird thing is the opening to Limsa has an interesting boat ride with monsters attacking. Why couldn't they do that with the ride each time?

Yeah there really is no point taking the boat once you can teleport between cities. I see there's the option to fish but I've never actually tried it (had no bait at the time lol). It would be nice to know what some of the future plans for the boat ride are.

What I would like to see first of all is it turned into more like the Manaclipper from FFXI rather than the ferry. You could have multiple routes it can take like the manaclipper. One could be a fishing route, one takes you to LL, and another could take you to some small island or cove where there are unique monsters and maybe a dungeon.

In addition to normal monsters coming onboard like in FFXI there could be special boat versions of behest with each route tailored to a certain rank of players. Much like the pirates event in FFXI except done in the style of a behest where you and other players signup then fend off waves of monsters coming onboard.

Also I'm letdown alittle that the boat looks and feels too much like FFXI's ferry ride. Everyone knows about the tricks used to overcome technical difficulties in that game but to have it feel the same in FFXIV isn't right. Its like there hasn't been much advancement since 2002. Plus its a shame we can't even go through the door in the boat when it docks making it feel as fake as in FFXI. Speaking of the manaclipper I'd also rather see the ticket system for boat trips brought into FFXIV.

We can purchase more tickets at the dock gates and as long as a player is through the gates and has a valid amount of tickets then they can ride. The current way of being placed in a queue and if disconnected, having to go back through again I don't like.

Again this can be perhaps another example of where they had good ideas and systems already in place in FFXI and failed to carry them over to FFXIV.

They should add non-hostile monsters so DoW and DoM can have something to do without affecting DoH and DoL. They should also add a NPC to sell fishing stuff, just in case you run out.

If they allowed for random monster encounters, they'd better let you go below deck! As of right now, you can't really go anywhere. I usually just afk or start up crafting for a few.

You can go downstairs, there's just nothing to do there.

    Oh really? lol

I never even realized that. But then again, I never did try to go downstairs, and anyone else I've ever ridden the boat with never went down there either.
