More so when you consider Nidhogg is well over 1,000 years old and, even if things had been rosy, Shiva would have died of old age long ago. If you are long lived and someday someone take out one of your eyes and keep it as a trophy within his city for 1000 years, would you not try to take it back?
Sure, 1000 years is a long time for a human. But for Niddhog it is not so long ago. Like if someone steal something important from you while you was 20 years old (like one of you eyes to keep it as a trophy) and with 40 you still feel the rage about this.

And what of his children, from what we know so far, Nidhogg is considered the King of dragons, and he's a nasty piece of work. Whereas from, the video Dragonsong we seem to be having some kind of peacefull talk with Hraesvelgr, but if you look at the full heavensward trailer, he assaults the warrior of light as he enters Ishgard.

The French text gives a different description of Hraesvelgr. Seems to be a good guy, or at least a "not my business"-type of fellow:

"Unlike his brother Nidhogg, he doesn't take part in the conflict between Ishgard & Dravania, and no one saw him in centuries.
According to the legend, he lives in a remote place, far away in Dravanian skies but no one ever could prove the existence of this lair."

For the other 5 it's hard to say, maybe they will use one of the major dragons from XI?

Fafnir, Jormungand, Tiamat, Vrtra, Ouryu are the five I'm leaning towards us seeing as the rest of the brood. But I could be mistaken of course. I share the sentiment that there is a deeper reason to the war going on and I think Nidhogg's eye might be the key to it.

Bahamut is already confirmed as one of the seven First Brood.

I don't think Nidhogg had a thing with Shiva. I think it was Hraesvelgr. Im betting Nidhogg's hate goes back even further to the Allag. There is a good chance that the Dravanians are either fromer Allag slaves or were oppressed by the Allag. It would seem strange for the Allag to go to a completely different continent to hunt dragons when they had a whole nation of them in their back yard.

My personally tinfoil theory is that the Ishgardians and the Dravanians were actually close, perhaps even part of a shared kingdom, in a previous Era. Some betrayal by members of the Elezen leadership lead to great suffering for the dragons, perhaps selling them out to the Allag. Nidhogg at that time came to the conclusion that mortals couldn't be trusted and his hatred festered. Thus when the Ishgardians turn up he attacks.

I suspect that the Ascians are manipulating both sides, possibly with the goal of keeping Dragonkind and the rest of us from allying. So the just keep feeding the hate.

Now one question people haven't asked yet is how the Garleans are going to fit into this. We see Varis turning up so they clearly are up to something big.

Bahamut is a dragon of Meracydia, and a primal... I don't think it's related to Midgardsormr. Can you link your source?

Also, even if I know that there were those dragons in FFXI (Jormungand, Tiamat, etc...) I think they will follow the Norse folklore trail, so no Ouryu (clearly a japanese name) and maybe no Jormungand (it's a different name for Midgardsormr, in the mythology... but they could ignore this, of course ^^).

Jormungand is a trash mob in WoD. Tiamat I'm looking forward to and I hope Ouryu makes a return. But I wish I could side with the Dragons cuz I really don't trust the Ishgardians. I sense more backstabbing coming.
