This game can't have a add-on unlike others mmo.
With additional add-on that can help us manage dot timer/cooldown or what ever.
I wish summoner can be good like WoW Warlock, hard hitter ranged magic DPS.

*claps*
This is a big part of why people hate the class. They don't see the immediate results that they might with other classes, and as such, assume it's worse in terms of over all damage. In terms of quick damage, yes, BLM or a melee is better. In terms of over all damage though in a long fight, (Read: Most boss fights), those DoTs, particularly buffed ones, do a LOT of damage. It just isn't as easy to tell because there's not giant numbers popping up ever time they hit. Plus, each tic has it's own chance to crit, on EVERY DoT active, which means if you count that in as well, then you're looking at a significant increase in fights where they stay up all the time, (5 DoTs with potential crits each every 3 seconds)......

You should just go SCH right now.
As a SMN, you're a DoT Hero, you're one as a SCH but your main thing is healing.
You also get cute pets that don't look like nuggets and you get fast queue's.
That's about it. I'd probably like SMN more if it wasn't DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT'S
and more interaction with my summons.
I can play DoT lord as a SCH on my free time when I use Eos/Selene to slave for me hehe.

lol I regularly beat other BLM and even melee DPS when I run content except T13 farming, and even then other BLM rarely win. There is a great satisfaction in showing how good SMN is in the hands of the right player, just like Ryuko mentioned. The expansion is going to be good to us, trust me fellow SMN. As for the OP, sell you on SMN? Just play the class yourself.

This is exactly why I play Scholar.

Lungs are collapsing.
Head is burning.
Esophagus is being crushed.
Bowels are releasing.
Stomach is grumbling.
BAAAAAAANE

I started out aa white mage but since I tried summoner I changed that to my main.
Its a challenging job to play and you need some micro skills in some fights. Like shiva ex, took me a long time to learn to dodge with egis.
Alot of people think you only spam ruin or ruin 2 but thats the bad summoners way of playing it.
I see so many summoners casting ruin ruin ruin when there are adds that got zero dots or some dots are running out.
You need to plan ahead sometimes. "Okay shiva will do this or that attack in a few seconds, i should cast a new bio 2 now so it doesnt run out"
To me it is a challenging class to play and the glowing mog book is pretty for glamour so if you fancy that you should try summoner

I once play as SMN, but everything change since SCH job attacks...
If your looking for a job that is actually a Summoner, or even in the spirit of, the Final Fantasy series pick another job sadly. If you think you might like a DoT class much like World of Warcraft's Warlcok then maybe give it a try. Sometimes I wonder what is the point of having summons since your damage mainly comes from your spells and they die so quickly. Plus you only use 2 of the 3. One for dungeons and the other for solo leveling.
Some people say it is a difficult job but I personally find it easy to manage the DotS, so I guess it depends on what your used to. The hardest part is knowing the fights/be quick on your feet so you can layer on DoTs between boss Aoe attacks, since they take awhile to channel. Other jobs have to do this too though so it isn't exclusively a summoner thing.
I personally was disappointed in the job and how far away it went from the feel of the Final Fantasy series Summoners. I'll probably be leveling/gearing another job slowly to go along with it and might eventually leave it behind.
