Cool, I spent 115,000 marks on 23 crafting treatises and they're removing them.
They'd better do something about that soon because that's retarded.

its a great change.
crafting should be an aspect of the game and not the game itself.
+1 to the new system![]()

Yeah but what makes "grips, handles, weapon heads, tool heads, shafts for pole arms and tools"? It's the lumber, the nuggets, ingots, planks, the materials. If you eliminate the parts you eliminate the need for the materials that make up them.your talking about materials though.... not parts
lumber, nuggets, ingots, planks, thats all materials
grips, handles, weapon heads, tool heads, shafts for pole arms and tools those are all parts.... thats whats going away
not the planks, lumber, nuggets, ingots
and no i'm not too happy with this news.... the parts going away and the new dye system sounds like an ok thing..... the rest eh
Come on now, squares are rarely used in anything apart from iron squares for ARM skill ups. However the massive drop in iron demand elsewhere is enough to make it worthless. Like I say iron is already down to less than 1k an ore. I can't say I've ever grinded my ARM or BSM on copper, tin and zinc but these are already worthless materials so it's irrelevant. The only woods a CRP grinds on are yew and walnut if done right. The other woods are only used when making parts. Even a 10% drop in demand for yew and walnut will cause massive devaluation of those materials, the other woods will see 90% drop in demand. So no one is going to make iron squares, silver squares? Copper, tin and zinc are all used for BSM, ARM and Goldsmith grinding synths. All of those woods are used to make lumber to grind Carpenter. You seriously think that's going away? You're making this out to be way more than it is.
I do wish SE would have given more examples however. Look at the Iron Bhuj recipe for example.
Bronze Axe Butt (x1)
Bronze Axe Ferrule (x1)
Cedar Axe Haft (x1)
Iron Bhuj Head (x1)
Scale Glue (x1)
Hyena Fang (x1)
I mean what are they going to remove from this? If you get rid of the parts you're left with scale glue and a hyena fang. If they changed the recipe to this I'd be okay with it:
Bronze Square (x3)
Cedar Lumber (x1)
Linseed Oil (x1)
Iron Ingot (x2)
Iron Plate (x1)
Iron Rivets (x1)
Scale Glue (x1)
Hyena Fang (x1)
Because that uses the same materials, you're just eliminating synths required to make the four parts. However that is 11 materials so perhaps they could change it to this:
Bronze Ingot (x1)
Cedar Lumber (x1)
Linseed Oil (x1)
Iron Ingot (x3)
Scale Glue (x1)
Hyena Fang (x1)
That's 8 mats vs the original 6, so people will whine whine whine that they need more mats for their synth and it's why SE won't do this. Of course you eliminated 5 synths but people won't notice that. What SE probably will do is this:
Bronze Ingot (x1)
Iron Ingot (x1)
Scale Glue (x1)
Hyena Fang (x1)
So what we have here is 1/3 the demand for iron, 0 demand for cedar and 0 demand for linseed oil in this recipe. Apply that across every recipe and you've got way less demand of everything gathered.
Clearly the biggest problem with this change is the effect on gathering. Gathering production has been too high since forever, if they give this a massive nerf then I think most people complaining about the change will stop complaining. I can currently gather about 70 walnut logs in a 2-3 hour session, if this was cut to say 20 things would be balanced again. Same with iron production and everything else currently gathered. Gathering needs a massive overhaul and it needs to come with the crafting overhaul or you make it irrelevant.

Well said, agreed! All i have to say to this thread is this: (quoting what Yoshi said below)
"11. Would you welcome changes to FINAL FANTASY XIV that would drastically alter the rules already set in Eorzea?
It seems this question started a wave of panic among players about whether or not character data would potentially be wiped. For the definitive answer on that, please see my response to a player's letter below. As for the results, 85% of players answered in the affirmative. This is something that will be in the forefront of my mind when making decisions concerning future updates to the game. I promise to do everything in my power to address as many of the players' demands and desires as I can."
We all voted for drastic changes and here they are and i am happy.
Good move.
I support the dev team, keep moving forward.
Many of the current recipes have a secondary class requirement, forcing players to develop skills in multiple crafting disciplines. New recipes, however, will not require secondary skills at this point in time.Perfect !! As a Carpenter, it was a pain in the *** to make a low lvl Lance that required a high level armor part.
The only ones crying are the people with multiple high lvl crafts. lol
It was retarded that it took me at least 5 others synths in order to make such a simple equipment like a Hempen Doublet.
But i agree that high lvl recipes should be more complicated than that.
* In the future, it will be made so that players benefit from developing skills in multiple disciplines.
^ IN the future, plus they said some recipes are barred from exception.
* Alternate uses are being considered for crafting facilities and treatises.

To anyone still proclaiming that gatherers won't suffer.
Here are some numbers:
New: (Nearly no subsynths)
1 bolt of undyed hempen cloth
1 spindle of hempen yarn
1 circle of sheep leather
1 copper ingot (5 nuggets)
Old: (With mats subsynths broken down)
4 undyed hempen cloth (12 hempen yarn)
3 hempen yarn
1 & 2/12 sheep leather
2 Taupe sheep leather
0.1041666~ copper nugget
As you can see, pretty much everything but copper consumption was cut down to almost a quarter. Not to mention that with far fewer intermediary steps, crystals and shards will also see a massive decrease in use unless these new recipes require a large amount more than the old ones.
I'm still going to wait and see how this ends up, but I've got to throw my lot in with the group claiming this is treating the wrong symptom. The wards need a heaftier overhaul, we need a dedicated item ordering system, (which could also serve as a gil sink for the economy!) a Mail System and Auction House. We don't need another system gutted and left to die in the streets.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

Then I go back to my original statement that you needed to be more vocal. Some people out there beat you or your friends who this seems to hurt the most and spoke louder in the forums then all. I want someone to explain how simplifiyng the crafting system.....no I retract that... STREAMLINING the crafting system is dumbing it down? If you had to go out in the field for battle and you had to do this:@ Geesus
Been here since beta.
I was talking about detailed ideas once they have some they want to move forward with, not just were gona change stuff.. Then poof here you go!
They have no idea what people were thinking and I doubt more then 10% thought anything alike when they answered that question at the time.
I was think I'd love to see the world more dark, sinister and hostile, with classic FF style content and weapons (FFV/VIII)..
I knew it wouldn't happen like that, but we needed changes and more so we needed content and a better direction.
I'm not a crafter really I find it to slow for my taste.
(and this change will do nothing to improve or change that at all)
But I do not want to see the game dumbed down to the point where people i enjoy playingwith leave.
(and will likely with this going ahead as im sure it will)
And to them this isn't a small loss, its like the DoW/M being told you can use cross class skills, or we get only 1 class and have to go to a town to change classes.
1 choose weapon
2 choose hand to use with weapon
3 grab weapon
4 remove weapon from sheath
5 prepare weapon for striking
If THOSE were the steps needed for you to attack a foe and I mean actually prompted for this JUST like the old craft system use to be, would you consider it dumbing it down if they turned around and made it as it is now?
As for you asking me about the classes, ummm in XI you HAD to go back to town to change your classes LOLOL. And yes, it sucked. But, I played it for 3 years and to this DAY, love that game. So sorry, no bites on that one.![]()
I really like the idea SE has here. I personally hate crafting as it is now due to the extensive material lists. I'm all for it! Change is good, don't be scared! lol
But then again, you people on the forums will bitch about anything SE says. Even if it's that you won a million dollars.

As soon as i saw the news on FFXIVCore i was 150% sure we would see a thread with pple whining. The changes are great beyond my expectations. This is what crafting should be. There's absolutely no need for it to be so overly complicated. Being too complicated doesn't make it more fun or add anything to gameplay. It just turns off people from crafting.
Good job SE, i see this game turning into a great product so don't listen to all these whiners, all the casuals will welcome this.
