Pay more gil to bid higher for more loot?
Pay more gil to bid higher for more loot?

Wait, what? If this is a thing, anyone who doesn't craft, gather, or is a FC that sells runs is screwed.
EDIT: Ok before more attack me for my post, I said this not knowing what the OP was talking about because he did not post any official info about it.

I'm afraid I can't comment on such an issue without official information/links ^-^
Edit:
Thanks to the link below...
It is a non issue since it is for pre-made parties only. (AKA Don't like; don't join.)
In my case, I am on a JP server and 'Greed' parties are extremely popular; and as such that loot option is likely to be the favoured loot rule.

Unknown.
We don't know how the new Loot systems will be assigned, activated and changed.

Would said gil be lost or divvied up between the party? Because I think I can back the latter, but I don't see a point to the former.
You should realllly post the source before making a comment on it
"New Looting systems available
Pre-made parties only
Lootmaster
Party Leaders distributes drops.
Auction
Players can bid on drops with gil.
All Greed
Players are unable to roll Need on drops."

Some things to keep in mind, premade parties only, so only the Leader can set the rules, when it comes to auctions I doubt many will burn gil if it just goes into the void. But time will tell, there isn't enough information to say how "auctions" will effect things.
I will say it's odd though, All Greed I can understand but it's possible that the Auction system might be designated for parties that were made with the idea of selling items to players.

Not exactly. If you get outbid by someone with insane amounts of gil then you just won a share of that insane amount of gil. This may actually work really well to redistribute wealth in the game.
Remember these new loot rules can only be applied in premade groups with prior agreement anyway. You will go into the instance knowing what the loot rule is. If you don't like it you don't join. These rulesets are really just there to facilitate unofficial rulesets that premade groups have been using since launch.

First time I heard a currency bid system in game (for parties). Interesting.

The sky isn't falling ><
If you object to an auction loot system, then simply don't join a PF that uses that loot rule. These custom rules have zero influence outside of premade parties.
As long as the gil is distributed among the other members of the group, I think this will be a wonderful system. Finally I won't be leaving empty handed all the time thanks to RNG, from now on I'll walk away with either a drop or gil!
