FFXI, Aion, RFOnline, Vanguard... there are a LOT of MMOs out there that have featured the pet as the medium for all (or most) of your skills rather than casting them yourself. It's been done before and that is how Summoners in the FF universe have ordinarily worked in the past. WoW's Warlock works because the mechanics make sense within the lore of WoW's universe. FFXIV's Summoner does feel very cobbled together with it's random combination of elemental pets and a bunch of poison spells. The fact it imitates WoW's Warlock so closely is sort of the problem for many I think.

All the games you mentioned iirc are gone now...possibly for good reason =P

It is actually nothing like WoW's lock gameplaywise. The classes in this game are not rotationally complex (nor proc based/reactive) in the least, and the primary point of this game is doing DDR with void zones, so its a different kind of complexity than WoW.

As I mentioned in a previous post, what people seem to actually want for SMN is for it to be a druid. You switch pets = switch forms, multitude of abilities, completely different combat roles. Etc. So this is a massive disconnect from what we have currently, so its not going to happen. Maybe for another class (beastmaster, blue mage maybe).

EDIT: I actually had the biggest gripe about SMN, is that their pets are called pets and pet actions, instead of summons. Its a pretty big hint here, but it would mean a lot to me if that entire section was called Summons.

And when mechanist comes out, their pet section will be called Tools (a la Edgar, the Machinist) or Turrets or something.

Aion is not gone panda (it's still very popular in Korea, I think it's the most played iirc).

But yeah, i agree with you on what you're saying. I can understand the reasons of Dreadwyrm Trance (making us better at burst/aoe/trash etc) but I think they missed an opportunity to make us synergize with our pets. What I have in mind is something like that : depending on your current egi, you summon its power and you gain different abilities depending on the situation... Kinda like Dreadwyrm but with more versatility and more focus on your summon.

But yeah... seeing that you can spam Ahk Morn and it hits for 2.7k-3k non crit... I guess it helps SMN greatly.

No offense, but have you played a Warlock in WoW? Let's make a comparison list:

Aether Flow stacks = Soul Shards
    Smn dots = Warlock dots
Ruin/Ruin 2 = Shadow Bolt/Malefic Grasp (as in it's a filler spell while dots are ticking)
Pets = pets (minus the pvp pet and debuff remover pet and the burst aoe pet)

    And with the new stuff:
New Tri-Disaster = Soul Burned Soul Swap
    Dreadwyrm Trance = Metamorphosis
    Ahk Morn = Chaos Bolt

Now if that doesn't look like FF14's Summoner is a hodge podge of WoW's Warlock with all 3 of it's specs mashed together with a greater emphasis on Affliction, then I don't know what does. After all, I fairly sure there was an interview in which Yoshi-P mentions that WoW was an inspiration to ARR and Summoner shows it with how similar it is to Warlock. Heck I quickly grew bored of Summoner simply because of the fact that I did feel like I was playing Warlock all over again which I had played as in WoW for nearly 3 years in a row and so I just couldn't stand to keep playing essentially the same class over and over again.

Well according to the Twitch steam Q and A, in order to use or go into Bahamut stance it costs Aether flow, and then you need 3 stacks to use the Deathflare.

So how is this going to work with Tri-Diaster, or bane/fester?

There's bahamut aether and aether flow. If you read or watched it like you claim to you would know these things.

Uh no there isnt, if your watching the live stream Q and A on twitch that is going on, you NEED Aether flow to switch into Bahamut Stance, and then your Aether Flow simply becomes Bahamut Aether Flow, mr know it all

They said it requires aether flow to be on cooldown to use.

I don't know why this surprises me because in this very thread we've confirmed you've never played summoner.

Sure whatever you say, because I forgot what level you get useless tri-bind at?

Go look up my character before you run your mouth on what I have or have not played

    Thanks for conceding.

Even if it does cost an aether flow, you're trading a fester for Ahk Morn. This is a no-brainer even you should view as a good trade.
