Because making something the majority like is basically telling those who aren't a fan of "99% human 1% miscellaneous" to go elsewhere. Even if it's just a small %, at least there will be playing the new race.

Then they can spend a few years making the new race. It just appears lazy when you just recycle something that already exists and then tack something new onto it.

You seriously expect them to spend a few years making a race that isn't popular and will only be played by a small percentage of players?
