No, the FC size must be reduced to about 200. After that point, you are just adding strangers. For LSs, it doesn't matter that much as they are for the exchange of information.

Not even close. People under certain flags wish to be together, even if they don't always talk to the other 500 people, the people they talk to may speak to those they don't. 512 is actually too low for some FCs which have certain types of people join. No, the FC size must be reduced to about 200. As such, the group is not cohesive and fails to work properly.
What does it matter to you if they are just strangers? Nothing. Therefore, you have nothing to oppose.

I do have something to oppose, because just because they're strangers to me, doesn't mean they're strangers to other members.
This is a multiplayer game. It's not just about you. Everyone's contributions matter, and connections go much further than just those around you.
And again, even if it WAS only 200, if each of those 200 people had a bank mule or two, you'd STILL prefer to have the cap at 500.
The FC cap is perfectly fine. Reducing it is the height of stupidity.
Why do you care? These are just strangers asking for something that has no impact on how you handle your own FC/LS. Therefore, you have nothing to oppose.

Wrong. Just, wrong.
You seem to think an FC has to have everyone aiming for the exact same goal, it's not even close to correct.
Lets take a somewhat common example: LGBT friendly FCs. A lot of people join these so they can be relatively sure they won't be exposed to junk they do not wish to read, that each of the people within them is going to respect their privacy or situation. They do not need to know every single person, they do need to know every single person is going to follow a certain set of rules.
If you want a few hundred people "with the same goal" this is what linkshells are for, and why you can have 8 of the damn things. And even these could do with a larger membership count, specifically for linkshells that alert for Odin / Behemoth spawns, hunts and so on.

FCs are free COMPANIES. Meant to evoke the military definition, but also sharing a definition with the same that applies to, y'know, actual companies that you can work for.
Companies tend to have more than 200 members each. Does everyone who works for Jack in the Box know each other?
Guilds follow the same logic. They're LARGE groups of people you can draw resources from because you share a common motivation, goal, or profession. Do you honestly believe everyone in the Screen Actor's Guild knows every other member?
Different FCs have different goals just as different RL companies and guilds have different goals.
And if the leader wants to limit the number of people joining the FC, they can stop inviting when theyt hit that number, and those who want larger FCs can go upto the hard limit. All you wanting is to take away the freedom of having a large FC if desired. Doesn't matter to you if 500 players in a FC are all strangers if you arent in that FC.
Wanting to take that option away just because you don't like it is just pure selfishness. I don't like large FCs/guilds either, but good for them who does.
