You have to clear the 2.55 story, so they will expect that the player have at least ilevel 90. I assume the first dungeon, Dusk Vigil, will require ilevel 100.

Depending on they do go about it atleast. Right now it needs ilvl 90, but players who have Heavensward WILL be getting exp. It could be those without will need ilvl 90, while those with need to hit a certain level (since ilvl 130 is apparently going to be equivilent to lvl 55, thats about lvl 52 or so for ilvl 90.)
Not all players are same, don't assume everyone wants what you want.I think this is a great assessment. Think about it people. A black mage will be able to kill one mob right? On their own? Why can't they take on 4? Sleep the other three, nuke them down one by one. Oh wait they do that now do they not? So I don't think it will be much harder than it is now. Furthermore what gear level do you think they will require in Heavensward? At 50, a fresh 50 has ilvl 50,55,60 gear on. So do we know for a fact we'll need 100+ in the first areas of HW? Stuff that is hard for a ilvl55 is a breeze for someone in 100.
Players like a challenge, they just don't know it. That's the real point. They'll adapt like I said. They don't want someone like me teasing them after I got through. They might complain on the forums, but let it fall on deaf ears. Or just silence them with a moderation.

Seriously!? This stuff is posted in the news, and there are websites like xivsoul where you can see all kinds of info taken directly from the game in almost real time, like how many people are active vs total accounts, or how many characters of each job, race distribution, etc. http://xivsoul.com/
-In early 2014 SE announced in the year ending 2013/start of 2014 we had 2.5 million registered accounts, but only between 500k and 1 million were active, over the course of 2014 that number grew.
-Then late 2014, the game releases in China some months before the end of the year. Early this year SE announced that by the end of 2014/start of 2015 we had over 4 million registered accounts, and according to those sites that take real time data from Lodestone, we had 1.6 million active by end of 2014, which makes sense since the amount of registered accounts more than doubled from a year before, so it is scaling as expected. You really think with over double the amount of registered accounts since we had just under 1 million active that we're still going to have the same number of active players we did ending 2013/starting 2014? And let's not forget the mass influx of players coming from other MMOs in 2015 up to now to add on top of that, especially with Heavensward on the horizon. Lol. Where have you been?
Some people have reported that sites like xivsoul are not accurate as they actually show 'less' than the amount we really have in the game even up to 30% less, though maybe that's because it can only pull so much data, or something causes many players and characters to be missed. There are other sites, but I don't feel like searching as I don't use them much and haven't visited in months. And even if we exclude sites like xivsoul due to in-accuracy, we still have all the other info released.
As for the mistaken sub numbers pubbed early this year, here is the link to Polygon admitting the mistake and correction. You'll see that the report was from March 2014 showing total MMO subs for SE's games ending 2013, not 2015 report showing subs ending 2014. But it was too late. The news spread like crazy and everyone still uses it to tote FFXIV's subs. But if you've played ARR since launch, you should already know it was not correct since those were the same numbers we had ending 2013, and our registered accounts have more than doubled: http://www.polygon.com/2015/1/2/7480...10-subscribers
So for current subs/active players we probably have between 2 and 3 million when you consider sites like that show a lot 'less' than we really have, or just barely under 2 million possibly.
FFXIV has
-almost 10 million characters created
-spread out across over 4 million registered accounts
-and either just under or over 2 million of those are active players unless we still have the same 1.6 million number of players ending 2014, which is doubtful as it is certainly a lot more with people coming back for Heavensward, plus brand new players jumping ship from other MMOs, especially the mass influx from WoW after the WoD expansion made them give up hope for the game.

100% agree with OP

I am really interested in seeing how tough these mob are. They made it sound like if we were level 52 and tried to fight a level 52 we would have a tough time. If we cannot solo a same level mob with our choco "healer" out that will be kind of stupid imo.Now if we are level 52 and trying to fight a 54 or something or heck 53 then I could see us having issues.

So you pull 1.6mil out of thin air?
The 500k mark was actually confirmed by SE to "MCVUK" after they doubled check with them.

They originally posted Polygon's article, realized Polygon is shit and screwed up, and then added an update: after SE confirmed it was 500k (in January at least).
Still want to know where this 1.6m came from. You post a specific number, but all this post is guesses of what it may or may not be.

I'm looking forward to it.
Having to be social in an MMO? Sounds great to me.

I'm conflicted on this. On one hand, I do love those interactions where you see a random passerby in need and decide to lend them aid without a moment's hesitation. That's fun, and it builds friendships. I also like the idea of actually having to put up a fight with an enemy I find out in the wild, and having certain areas that I prefer to go in with a group rather than solo, instead of finding them as simple nuisances on my way to my next destination.....
But that also brings me to the other hand. I don't want to HAVE to fight every little thing if I'm trying to get from point A to point B. Trying to hunt down a B rank when no one else is on/no one else is willing to help is a big enough pain as is, because if you pass into an area where enemies near your level are, you're going to be spending half an hour slowed if any of them have any ranged attacks. And then by the time someone does shout that they've found your target, you can't get out and over there quickly enough before it's killed. As it is, the only way I can see making this work is taking out the heavy effect, but leaving the damage. I shouldn't be forced to fight every little thing that comes along, and I shouldn't be forced to have to party up just to get from point A to point B. The bottom line is that you'd effectively be screwed if you play at a time with low traffic. There's already enough trouble with the duty finder at certain times as is with several hour wait times to run a ten minute trial. I'm all for a more difficult overworld, but not if it comes at the cost of not being able to play the game past a certain point in the day. It has to have purpose to it beyond just "we want you to group up"....
Maybe if they simply added an incentive to grouping up, such as higher drop rates, or more exp. Like I said though, I do like the idea of more overworld interactions, but right now we're limited to FATEs, which grow old quick, and treasure maps, which you can only get one a day per party member unless you want to spend more than your getting in reward on more. I guess what I'm saying is that I'd much rather have an incentive to group up, rather than being put in a situation where I'm forced to.....
EDIT: In the end though, if we do get put to where we're forced to group, then so be it. I'll adapt to the situation and over come it. I'm not going to complain about what "might" be before we actually get to it, and even then who knows? I enjoy a challenge from time to time, and my entire play style is essentially a self imposed challenge that I gave myself when I started the game. I've made it my own, and adapted to better myself at the game. I can do it again if needed.....
