I always wanted to try out Dragoon but reading the comments during yesterday's live stream made me think it's a job that needs some attention (and Summoner I guess).
Oddly enough rather than "must be this job or kick" we get "We must have only ONE of this job"
The game pushes for party diversity in a really weird way, since there's a lot of interplay between various job abilities (NIN and DRG both boost the DPS of other party members with their debuffs, for example, while MNK and SMN/SCH help with mitigation, and PLD and WAR play off each other very well.) it becomes better to have a party with 8 different jobs than any 2 being the same.

Folks tend to over react here like crazy. All classes are viable for end game like others have said.

Jobs right now are fairly balanced to the point that you wouldn't really exempt one from a party composition, though you want to avoid class stacking if possible.

This is all subject to change with the expansion, and hopefully we won't run into an issues with class balance. Worse we've gotten was DRGs on the release of 2.4 being a liability in a raid environment, mediocre dps compared to the other melee and lack of overall party synergy/support.

After reading some of the 'RIP' posts, I'm wondering which jobs here are are in need of updates to become viable, which are 'OP', and which are pretty solid as is. DCUO was a bit different for me though because each power had a DPS and Support Role stance but I don't know if that is the case here (it doesn't seem to be). Thanks in advance!
Most of the things you are seeing on the forums right now are people jumping to conclusions about the new job info from the upcoming Heavensward expansion after yesterday's Live Letter revealed a lot of new job specific info. No one has actually tried this stuff yet since Heavensward isn't out until June. As for all the jobs currently in the game, they are all some of the most carefully balanced jobs I think I've ever seen in my 15 years of MMOs.

If you want instant Duty Finder pops for Instanced content (Dungeons, Raid, Trials etc) play Tank: Warrior or Paladin
For my money Warrior, I have both to lv50 but found Warrior much easier to tank with towards end of 2.0 storyline/content.
Saying that its worth playing other classes to a certain level for their cross-class skills, look online and experiment, XIV has a nice class/job system imo

In honesty its all FUD- we don't know anything til we play them. Devs in ff14 are very good about keeping things balanced. There is no FOTM like DCUO. Any job is viable for anything in the game. Just pick what you like. Only thing is that please note that DPS queues are longer due to majority of people playing dps. Unlike dcuo, all jobs are unique and HW are going to make them MUCH MORE unique. I almost was in tears when i saw how much work they put into HW.
Yeah, which is why I'm wanting to work on a tank or healer after getting my Black Mage to 50 (they've always been my favorites, but everyone wants to DPS....). My brother is a Paladin and we queue together and it makes things much faster .

That's really the only flaw that grinds my gears with this MMO. DF queue times for DPS. It's not anyone's fault, really. It's just the way things are and it sucks.

DPs queues should be getting better with Duty finder adjustments in 3.0 we just have to see. The last update of the DF with option of queuing in progress instances have made it faster for me

Queuing for duties in progress has been there for over a year now. Did you just notice it recently? Lol.
