It's funny you should mention this. I do hests on my main + alts all the time for the roulette (Healer, BRD, DRG, other archer.... recent alt MRD). I rarely see someone take off without the tank as much as I did last night.

I just recently started getting into MRD. I found it a little less bland than GLAD once I got passed my fear o_O; (always felt like Flash = safe, Overpower felt more finnicky, since I'd been tanking glad on my Hyur alt)
Lazily got my Balmung alt nub up to WAR off and on while on staycation and didn't have problems with this happening. Not a single time.

Decided to put that practice to good use last night and just transfer that fun times to my main character on Couerl so I can also be with FC when I play MRD/WAR.
First three hests I go into - DRG and WHM just run in without me like I didn't exist. (I stood there debating on just letting the DRG have it all... But decided not to sink to their level and to at least try to do my job).
NIN runs in and does the same thing.
DRG does it again in third hest.
This was all in a row since I was sorta spamming the hests (as I'd gotten MRD to 17 some other time, ages ago).
    I was -highly- unamused.
Only had one hest where someone didn't take off without me or (in the very first hest instance where theres two mobs seperated) run to the complete other mob while I'm pulling a different one. That one time they didn't, I just kind of stood there waiting for them to go into a full flail run the moment the barrier lifts, ready or not.

It was like they all came out in full force last night.
Only had one good experience out of four/five hests and two dungeons since I tried leveling MRD on my main.

Maybe my alt is just more like-able on visual contact. ¬_¬

Easy way to stop it is to just show them no matter if they pull early or not they won't keep the mob for more than a second. Dps can try to tank but gg trying to keep aggro off me. And if they wanna chain pull we'll chain pull, low level crap takes forever anyways. Take it as a challenge and show them how little they can really control. All DD'S can do is kill things or kill thing quickly I control where mobs are pulled to who they hit and that DD can snooze with there boring rotations lol

Don't let a few bad apples ruin your tanking experience. For every one of them, there are hundreds more that will help you out! I love tanking, and generally, rarely deal with those types of people. My main antagonist are Bards. For some reason, Bards always think they should tell me how to tank, what to do, etc. It's funny in a way, especially when they don't have a tanking class themselves. You gotta run it your way, you are leading the party. Without you, especially on duty bosses, they won't last long.

If a DPS pulls ahead of me, I'll watch that critter run by, and maul the DPS. I'll pull aggro on other creatures, and let the DPS deal with it. If they wanna tank, I give them the chance. All in all, I've met so many great DPS though, those few stick out like a sore thumb. Keep at it, I am sure you'll do just fine.

Ill be honest, people need to grow a thicker skin...

Have we got the job for you.
These lines should flash across the screen whenever people want to try out tanking jobs... If the answer is no to any of these, then you are not really suited for tanking outside of a safe FC environment....
Tanking is not more difficult, doesn't require more awareness(just awareness) not more complicated than other jobs, but you will more often than not get blamed if things go sour... Also, you are more likely to notice other peoples lazyness and mistakes(healer not healing ---> tank will notice this, dps pulling ---> tank will notice this, no aoe/slow dps --> tank will notice this... I could keep going with this...)

Also, you have been dps for 2 years and done the dungoens a million times and still dont know your way around them... talk about tunnelvision...

Bottomline: If you accept that players will blame you for stuff from time to time, although it might not be your fault, you will have no problem tanking... dont let stuff get to you, just think of it as practice...You will be a fierce tanking machine in no time..

    UPDATE:

So, the bad luck continues. Every run since last time I posted here has been the same, AND on top of that I no longer stop to mark. I literally just go gung-ho, except throwing up ready check on bosses. But most of the pulling has been on the mobs. It happened in Halatali just now in that one room which is the hardest trash pull in the dungeon with 4 of those guys. So what I did was DPS the fight instead of tanking after the THM pulled.

All in all I'm not mad. I've gone in with that crazy mindset now. Next time it happens I'm going to do the clap emote on whoever pulled intentionally and watch cheering them on. Or I'll clap and cheer for a little bit then DPS. Or maybe I'll do a dance while they get beat up. So many ideas I have. Tanking is GREEEAAT! ^_^

First time a party member goes and pulls something ahead(and you know it's intentional not just an autorun derp) I'll grab it and then politely ask them to stop stating that I will not pickup anymore pulls they make, second time and onward I'll let them tank it I'll just /sit and watch, if I'm annoyed enough I will vote dismiss them for harassment. I run dungeons to relax not to get stressed by people that don't even want to be there and would foist their needs on others. Also as I'm not the best of tanks I prefer a slower pace simply so that I'm aware of things going on, stray mobs and such. And yes I will do mass pulls where I feel comfortable with but will always confirm that with the healer(unless I know them) and of course assuming there is aoe potential - I do not expect to be holy carried by a whm if all we have are 2 melees and a whm.

Its great to be the one setting the pace, but the pace has to be set at the pace that is optimal for what the group can handle. if you go too fast, you wipe. you go too slow, the dps get bored and start pulling for you. Determining what a group can handle is the other half of the job.
I only logged in to give you a like. Well said, if the tank is a slowpoke of course the dps will pull even if the tank is new. And determining what the Group can handle is the most importat thing while doing dungeons.

it's a simple fact of life. When im doing roulette by myself it does happen in pre 50 instances. The fact of the matter is, its hella hard to die to trash mobs pre 50 if your healer is paying any attention at all. However, post 50 if a DPS does this.... then i respect their ability to tank and will let them.

U mm OP, you know about the 2 different hate meters right? The party bar list And then the stoplight. The stop light tells you your agro level on all the mobs, whi ch it seems you don't know what this is. You shouldnt be watching a mobs hp you should be watching its agro tables, if your watching a mobs hp to know what to atk (like you said you are) youbare doong it way wrong, Also if you never paid attention to what your tank was doing when you played dps, then that's bad on you. You should be able to tell if ita a good tank, bad tank, and what they should be doing. judging by your anwsers i can promise you their is a lot more happening in thia dungeon that the dps are seeing that you arent, because you never paid attention. Your first example for instance, those bombs explode and die and give xp, without fighting them. You should just keep pulling mobs while keeping the bombs on you till they blow up on their own.
