In any case, I haven't had this issue much since I started as a GLA in sept '13, but I've heard about it a lot. First thing, if DPS pulls then DPS dies, it's not a power thing it's a "let me play the effin' game" thing. There is a massive learning curve for new tanks. GLAs build stupidly low aggro in the first couple dungeons. Getting into Tam Tara before hitting 26 can be rough and I've seen several gladiators almost quit at that point,
Uhm... I almost did at GLA25. Hence my last post where I said "nevermind". Actually I said I had quit at 25. But I changed my mind, because I can't do anything about overgeared players. But it is EXTREMELY DISCOURAGING when you use every aggro skill you have and it doesn't get aggro back. Flash 5 times and still lose aggro? Come on man..that doesn't help with confidence. And for trash mobs more than 3, I tend to just give up.

I actually tested another tank by queing into a low level dungeon on my BLM, just to see how he handled things with me being super overgeared. But I know how to play BLM and know how to hold back..so I didn't help myself on that one XD. But he had some issues with the healer overhealing.

Not sure I understand, but it wasn't directed at you, it was the OP, a couple of the first posts and some weird NewbieTank-hate that I'd skimmed. Like I said, I wish I would have been able to keep up with this thread :P

If you aren't generating enough aggro, stack more STR for the more difficult parts of leveling via attributes and accessories and more than anything, keep up your Weapon Damage stat, meaning get the highest ilvl weapon you have access to. You can always reset attributes later.I For the record 'Im not super into building myself as a DPS at endgame out of habit (though I swap, circumstances permiting) but your first priority as tank is aggro management, then survival, then DPS and support, so don't hesitate to take more STR if aggro generation is low. At that level a CNJ is healing you for 1/3rd your HP anyways.

To new tanks who aren't so thick-skinned I usually encourage them to hit 26 before getting into Tam Tara--it makes life 1000 times easier

Also, there's a random letter "I" in my post that I can't delete...

See? It looks like it's either or. Scientifically proven.
No, it's not either or, nor "scientifically proven". Both sides need to suck it up.

If a DPS is pulling, don't be a **** and just let him die. Try to pick them up and tank. If you die, the result is the same as if the DPS died... you have to wait either way.

If you're a DPS and the tank is slow, either suck it up and deal with it or "help" pull. Same result as above, either you'll succeed or die.

There's no point being a **** either way. If you're a **** tank, you give yourself and all of us a bad name. Sure, you might force that DPS to leave, but you come off as a bully. If you're a **** DPS, you'll keep getting the party (or yourself) killed and either waste even more of your own time (in the case of a slow tank) or will be kicked.

In either case, both need to "Suck it up, Sunshine". Applies equally to everyone.
