I'm one of the few proponents of the current incarnation of Summoner on these boards. I've witnessed for slightly over a year Summoner mains voice their displeasure of the job, trashing it in possible way. So in order to quell the complaints Square announced, that in retrospect is possibly ugliest translation ever, Summoner was gettinga massive overhaulheavily reworked. I was completely dismayed. For many on this board it wasn't enough for the job to be reworked or overhauled. For some, the game would be better if Summoner were completely removed. People that don't enjoy the job want to mutate it, transform it, have it taken away. That hurts.
Edit - cellphone died while I was editing in the rest of the post
Apparently the line, "if you don't enjoy a particular job, try another" applies to every job but Summoner. Yup!! Summoner needed to be fixed! Well, Square answered with new abilities and a relabeling of an unpopular one (I use it all the time in PvP). Tri-Disaster is staying but under a different name. The job still remains a dot class. And there are no new Egis because apparently the team expended quite a bit of energy just trying improve the current crop of pets. Disgruntled Summoner Mains, this is ALL your doing! You've asked for a complete overhaul and redesigns and Square gives us what we would expect from a job during the release of an expansion, enhancements. People, this is Final Fantasy XIV's Summoner. It's a dot-casting-pet job. It's an Arcanist with Fester. It's not Yuna. Isn't each Final Fantasy a chance to explore how jobs are implemented and interact with one another? Disgruntled Summoner Mains, this is 14's Summoner. It's not inadequate. It's fun, it's distinct from all the other DPS jobs. This game needs this Summoner, not a second Black Mage to compete with other DPS in downing adds. I don't mean to revel in other's misfortune but quite a few of you campaigned to take away something that many of us enjoy. Not cool.
Maybe 3.0 will bring something that all of us will enjoy. Until then dotDotDOT
