The zodiac portion of the relic quest line is about as fair as it can get really. There is a set drop rate percentage and that number is static for everyone. You, me, and everyone else has the exact same chance of getting the items. I would call that the very definition of fair. Yeah, it can suck watching someone else get a drop before you do, but there's another side that you are failing to see. For every dungeon that you went 1/1, 1/2, etc, there are at least a dozen other people that are on their 15th+ run. My first relic, I had a lot of drops within 3 runs and then I hit AK. It took 43 runs through there to get my drop. Now after having completed three relics, I can honestly say that it's always going to be mixed bag; sometimes you get lucky with the drops and other times you have to put up with RNG being a @#$%. It all evens out in the end though. Perception of how things are distributed in an RNG system will always be skewed by your personal experiences.

As a side thought, be thankful SE didn't make it to where you had to be on the relic job (or on that particular stage post first completion) to get the drop.

Problem is that it does not even out at the end. I don't know why people keep saying this. Some people have finished all 16 drops in fewer than the 43 runs you spent on AK alone. It doesn't really make sense for one person to finish the entire quest in 40 dungeons, while it takes someone else 200 dungeons. My first weapon took 64 dungeons, my second took 114 dungeons, and my third took 89 dungeons. Huge differences in amount of time and effort put into it, and not everyone has as much free time as I do either. The difference between my first and second weapons is 17 hours of dungeon grind if basing on an average of 20 minutes per run. In reality, it was a lot more than that with all of the groups I had with new players and the queue times. All in all, I was fairly lucky on all three weapons compared to a lot of people that have posted on the forums, but nothing about this 'evens out' regardless.

It's nice that you think this is okay, but there's a reason they are putting the token system back in for primals, and why they are changing the loot system for raids. Putting in the same amount of effort for far different results is not good design. All that's needed to prevent the extreme outliers in the future is make the drop guaranteed after a certain number of dungeons. There will still be really lucky and really unlucky people, but it wouldn't be as extreme as it is now.

i think a mixture of both sounds pretty well to me. like RNG by itself isn't horable bad, but there need to be some things u can do to alter this RNG. i'll give example from ff11, if u go dynamis , u can bring in a theif to increase the drop rate, and also use procs, depending on he time of the day, to increase drops, these procs can be a special ability or magic or skill attack. now that way u have a way to play with the RNG a little. and in abysta, there was a weapon based proc for increasing rare item drops, a magic proc for increasing seal item drops ( to upg ur relic gear ), and so son, i think that was smart, there was still plenty of RNG left, but it felt like u can do something to make the odds a little on the side u wanted. instead of just grinding like robots, we had to use our heads, think about the weakness of the boss and how to use it to our advantage. again we were dealing with bosses for our relic or mythic weapon drops, not an easy mode dungen that, had no challange, a boss that u may have to silence some of his attacks to prevent a wipe, and also bring in friends to help like healers or blm to proc it. things like that that make u feel u need to put a plan and make it work instead of just zombie mode easy low level dungens.

on to my 30th run of lost city of amdapor, not sure why this one is taking so long for this zodiac quest, most of them were ok, like 1 to 5 tries, wp took 15 but this one , i keep feeling something is wrong with the quest, or my char is buged out, it is very wierd..
