Going by that logic we might as well not have any options for our UI or other various settings at all. We should probably toss out PvP development while we're at it. Maybe fishing too.

I'm glad we at least cleared that up.
Are we playing two different games here? FFXIV has those chat bubbles already.

I think the people running around in glamored underwear and wedding outfits 24/7 look ridiculous. And yet, unlike the chat bubbles that are being requested, I can't avoid seeing that nonsense with a toggle.

People saying: "Wouldn't ever use it, wouldn't want that stuff on my screen, so I'd never toggle chat bubbles on." - that's a valid opinion. People suggesting nobody should have access to the feature, though, are just being odd. Do you guys run around in discussions for colorblind players vetoing everything you would never want to use?

I wouldn't use it, therefore those of you who would, should not have it as an optional option that you opt-in to just because I don't like it. So there!

Probably because some of us have seen how bad they can get, especially in the hands of the immature masses that also push for open world duels and other things that (s)couldn't possibly be used as a means to annoy people (/s).

things that you can turn off? how can possibly things that you can turn off be annoying? how is that comparable to open world pvp duels (that unlike chat bubbles and wings i would actually like to see, but i will grant you could not be turned off and might be annoying to some people)

It takes development dollars to make something like this. In my view they are better off spending money elsewhere.

Clearly from the pictures I posted above the tech for chat bubbles is already in place. The bulk of the development is in adding new customization option to the UI settings.

I'd rather have development dollars spent there than on making the goobbue mount fly.

Could be nice occasionally, when you're in a quiet area holding a conversation with a couple other people and nobody else is around. But in any populated area, it would just turn into a clusterfuck of screen clutter, most of which is RMT spam. So if they do ever decide to add it, I hope they add an easy way to toggle it on/off (a keybind or macro command, maybe) and not just a checkbox you have to dig through the character configuration window to find.
