On Balmung the norm for farm parties is each person calls one item, the item is then locked to that person. Usually its a max of 1 person per item, so its first come first serve on calling the item, but its not like leader is only one who gets to lock one, the greed is just for anything not called by anyone. Is this what you're referring to or are you saying there's a bunch of parties where only the leader gets to lock anything?

We usually put the most popular items in PF announced as "locked" if someone's called it, just to limit the amount of people who jump in, ask if thats still open, then immediately leave since its not (which is fair, I wouldn't join if the item I wanted was called either), which I guess could be misinterpreted as only those items being locked if phrased poorly.

If it is people posting groups where only leader get to lock items, I'd say just ignore their group and join a different one. Seems to work over here, as anyone trying to be selfish about the loot rules tends to have their PF either fill extremely slowly or not at all. If its groups where everyone gets to call an item, I don't see the problem with that system. Heck, I prefer it since I don't always feel as comfortable with the fight on what I want gear for as I do on my main jobs.

@ Malusion I actually tried that . Call one item to lock but caster wasn't happy that a tank called caster body already. So they left and re host "Greed only. Caster body and slaying ring lock". Of course the usual one person leaves everyone else leave happen.

But yes the norm is okay with host locking 2+ items and everyone else is greed only . Only two people allowed to greed on same item. Its evident by amount of party's fill up over call one item and lock.

Their party, their rules. Don't like it, don't join. Make your own party. With blackjack. And hookers.

Eh, honestly if I really want an item I'll lock it. Otherwise it's a standard greed 2 max 2 per item.

These are usually the kidns of people you don't want in your party. People who are so rude often wont' be a productive part of your party.

I especially h ate people who join and then actually -actively complain about it being a greed party-...

If you join one of these parties, and you see your item is called, just say, "Sorry, the item I am after is called on, so I will politely bow out ^^" Dont' be a douche about it. Or hell, do what I do, "Hey, I'm after XX item. Is there something else you'd be interested in?" if the answer's no, then I just say, "Alright, take care! ^^"

    So uh,

If I DF something and there's something I really want in it, I'll just say, "Hey I'm trying to farm for this thing. If it drops, can I have it? (You don't have to say yes but I gotta ask anyway!)"

While I have always been prepared to perfectly accept it if someone says no or simply abstains from answering and then rolls, I have yet to be actually denied such a request even once.

So, hey, how about that open and forthright communication, ehh?

Yeah I do that. If I see my items are called for . I just let them know best of luck on their farm. Pains me to see that people are actually okay with this.

Well this isn't really something new loot systems would be able to help you with. If people want to call items locked on current system, they will keep doing it on new system. If we take two of the most common loot systems from other games as example.

All greed, no need: This would prevent people from going against the rules by needing on a locked item, but would still let people make locked item parties just as easily, as the only result of greeding regularly on locked items would be to get yourself blacklisted from the farm parties by the community.

Master looter: leader selects who gets what item: This would obviously make it easier than anything to enforce locked items. Leader would give the locked items to himself, and let people who want other items /random for them.

I'd say just keep trying to make more parties yourself. If the majority locks things to leader only, then people will start joining yours if you keep making ones under a preferred system for the members. Regulars to coil farm groups is a thing, and a lot of people tend to join parties with leaders they have good experience with in the past, so just strive to keep making good groups under your preferred system.

Edit: I've always been one to lot on the loot belonging to the class I main. But not everyone plays one class so I end up on the recieving end of this more than multiple class players.

Very rarely have I seen a "Greed Farm" party be unable to fill. The only exception was one REALLY STUPID FCOB T13 group that thought it was a good idea to lock 1 Weapon + 1 Armor (2 items per person)

and the reason I call this stupid?
There are 8 people in a party
    There are 13 weapons
    There are 7 armors
and they would only let you lock ONE of each. So one person was going to get screwed unless someone was passing.

Well, that's the -only- time I feel it doesn't work. Otherwise, I see three other types:
    N>G
G>N; Lock 1 item with a max of 1person per item
G>N; Lock 1 item with a max of 1person per item & claim a second item max of 2 people per item (So basically you get primary/secondary claims to help your chances at getting more loot)
