Questions about becoming a White Mage

Hi, I am very new to FF XIV and FF itself. This is the first FF game I've ever played and I just started playing a week ago. I started the game as a conjurer and I read that I can become a White Mage at level 30. I have two questions:

1. Is it smart to become a white mage before completing the main story quests?
2. If so, it says I have to also be an Arcanist at level 15, I haven't switched classes before so I'm confused on how this works. Do I just switch to Arcanist, level up to level 15 and then switch back to conjurer?

Sorry if these questions are stupid to a seasoned FF player, its just a little confusing to me since im an extreme noob at this point, lol.

You need to open the class from Limsa and go level to 15. Then, you can do the White Mage quests which all occur at Camp Tranquil. (Provided you've completed the quests up to level 30 from Gridania)

Oh, and to change classes, you just change your weapon. When you get to be a White Mage, you'll equip a WHM/CNJ weapon and then add the WHM soulstone that you'll get from the level 30 quest at Camp Tranquil.

Kaitlen nailed it. Those are the requirements to become a WHM. If you want to be a rilly awesome WHM, you'll need to put some additional time in ACN, and Thaumaturge as well (for the skills "Eye For Eye" and "Swiftcast" respectively).

Lastly, do your homework! WHM (IMO) is the most fun class currently in the game. But it can be a bummer if you're not prepared with a few good macros and techniques to streamline your casts, and maximize your mana.

Highly recommend levelling thaunaturge (in uldah) to 26 so you can use swiftcast! Swiftcast + raise is a powerful combo ( and later on swiftcast+ holy)

It's gonna feel like a slog to get to swiftcast, but the ability to cast a spell instantly every 60 seconds is an amazing game changer.

Swiftcast is well worth the torture of leveling a low level THM.
