The wings on the SMN AF sets (their AF1 had wings as well) are something of a SMN motif. The AF1 set was based on Bahamut with the gold filigree representing his allagan bindings, whilst the AF2 set is clearly themed on Bismark since both the new horn and wings are stylistically very similar to his (that new SMN weapon shown in the AF2 video was most likely their Bismark weapon as well since it shared the same theme).

The OP is asking for actual functional wings to fly with which would honestly make no sense. Why would players suddenly sprout wings? Like I said earlier we already have flying mounts which give the same functionality so there would be no need for wings in the sense that the OP wants. There's nothing wrong with cosmetic wings in the situations that we already have them because they make sense (all equipment with wings so far was specifically themed on a winged creature) just as long as the devs don't go crazy with it.

SE tends to be very understated with a lot of their armour designs anyway. They make things intricate and interesting without being over the top. Aion being a Korean MMO is kind of the complete opposite.

I would like to see self propelled flight, but damn do wings always look fugly while a character is standing. It only seems to look good in 2D... And it looked pretty obnoxious in Aion.

Yes, too bad that apparently the world is PACKED FULL of warriors of light. One might wonder why Hydaelyn needs so many to counter a handful of emo Ascians. Maybe we are not that poweful after all. :/

But no, story wise, there is only ONE warrior or light, and that is you. For gameplay reasons this is hardly possible tho.

Uh, you're contradicting yourself. First sentence, you state the obvious "world is full of warriors of light", and then you say "having the world full of chosen ones would be ridiculous". Well, duh. It already IS full of chosen ones, and it already IS ridiculous. Wings are where you personally seem to draw the line for completely arbitrary reasons.

Just admit that you don't like wings, instead of pretending to have a lore argument.

Well I was thinking it might be fitting as a final reward from Heavensward, like an Au Ra coming of age spell that grants a pair of wings(since in final fantasy dragons tend to have wings..) that just happens to work on other races.

Why won't I be happy with just a flying mount? Can't gather/fight/go into dungeons on a mount, I'm just thinking potential added content. Also wings shouldn't be visible unless your flying or use /wing emote.

Personally I think wings look hideous most of the time, and something like aerial combat just doesn't sound appealing. I'd be fine with wings if they're completely optional and effectively just a mount, but forcing players to use them because they start putting gathering nodes at the top of the tree rather than the base, or having aerial fights? Meh. I just cannot see aerial combat being worthwhile, it doesn't really add anything new and it would either look awful or require a massive amount of new combat animations to pull off...

Now, if you were to suggest a Skies of Arcadia clone with airship combat, that is an aerial combat system I can get behind. Aerial combat with wings would just let us fight Wyverns in the sky the same way we fight them on the ground, aerial combat with airships would let us take down enemies like Bismark and Bahamut, perhaps the odd Garlean Dreadnought.

Yeah, it wouldn't make sense. It fits in Aion because the lore in that game is designed around the fractions and the wings and such. To add full scale wings now would be weird, I am happy to stick with the flying mounts...and am content with the little wings I'll get on my AF2..haha. If I want wings I will go play Aion or Tera. >.>

But Zoner, Au Ra are demons, not dragons. Also for all you people saying you can't gather on a flying mount, why not just park the mount and then mine it on the floating object. It it's big enough to mine form it's either big enough to land on it, or small enough to take right from the air

Did they explicitly say that Au Ra have some sort of demonic heritage, or did they only say that their "motif" are demons?

Ah just to clarify, as Riepah brought up there's been no official word on their heritage stated. Only a lore bit saying scholars can prove no link to dragons at all and word from the devs that their MOTIF is demons. Thank you for the clarification reminder

Both dragons and demons have wings, so either way it could work
