    The great housing purge

While I do understand some people would be against this, let me state here that housing in other games had this happen. Ultima Online had a one month housing decay timer. If you did not log in and open your front door to refresh it, it would eventually collapse and all of your stuff would be on the ground to be picked up by anyone. Your house spot would also be empty and would be there for someone else to use a housing deed to place another house in its place.

This is not to be mean to people but to allow us subscribers to have the benefits of content when others have since left the game.

What SE needs to do is go through all of the houses and those who have not been logged in for 3-4 months should have a countdown timer to when their homes will be relinquished. To be fair, SE should contact the owners of the homes via E-mail and let them know of the timer and how long they have before forfeiting their establishment. This way, it will give those who are unsubbed warning and allow them say, 2 months to resub and log in to reset their homes. Those who choose to not do this will have their homes relinquished back to the S.E bank and put up for sale once more. This will free up a lot of homes that have become abandoned and allow us paying customers the chance at all of the features associated with the housing system.

I may be mean in this way of thinking (coming from Ultima Online and seeing as how this is how housing worked as well as being a Real Estate agent in that game) I guess I am used to the harsh penalties of not being logged in for 4 months. I lost my Castle in that game due to not logging into the game for 5 months but that is the way the cookie crumbles. I eventually got in touch with the new owner who also owned everything that was in it because he picked it all up. I paid for the castle and everything inside for a hefty fee and everything was fine again. We need a housing purge.

So that is what I an pleading with SW to do. Thank you

While I agree to a point what do you do for instances where soldiers get deployed over seas or something of that effect. I can see them just doing it for people who have Unsubbed and stuff but there are certain things that make it impossible for others to log on for months

Lore of the Rings Online system was (stopped playing so don't know if it's still the same) that you pay rent to keep your house. If you fail to pay up, you lose the property. In the event that you have to unsub for a lengthy period of time, you pay your rent up to 6 months in advance so you can keep your house even if you can't log in.

If housing can be relinquished due to AFK, then the cost should be a fraction of what it currently is. Requiring 90M for a house that you can lose is ridiculous. As it stands, if I drop that much gil on a property, that better be mine in perpetuity.

I just logged in the other day to pay upkeep---this is still true. I paid through October. A much better systems, imo.

I agree with the LOTRO system, but the initial cost of the house is fairly small in relation to FFXIV cost. While relating the value of LOTRO currency vs FFXIV currency is hard, as someone that feels fairly rich in both games, I can say that the cost of a large house in LOTRO never felt like it would break the bank whereas a large plot in FFXIV would put a significant dent in it. I'd be fine if they dropped the initial cost of housing by 75% or so and charge a 100k/week or something for it.

A system like that would purge players a bit more fairly than just tanking away a 100M house from them.

Well, if the housing were to be relinquished automatically, then it would let people make wiser decision when buying a house, instead of a mansion, maybe buy a medium or small sized house where you CAN cope with the losses if anything were to happen.

I'm all for auto relinquish, on a 30 day or 60 day timer. If somebody doesn't log on for 30 days, chances are they're not coming back.. If they do, they're already behind on gearing, questing, and just about every other aspect of the game, what's another lost house?? Not a huge deal if you're willing to "almost" start over from being left behind.

Give us an option to pay property taxes straight out of my personal gil stash, that way if someone hoarding 500 million gil goes inactive, their gil is taken out of the system for good. Another gil sink? We could use some more

A Castle in Ultima Online cost me around 50 MILLON gold, which is roughly 100 mil gil in FF14. The loss of gold is something that happens. If I do not pay my taxes, I lose my house no matter how much money I put into it when I originally bought it, the IRS does not care. That is how the housing was looked at in that game. If you are going to quit the game, its better to sell all of your assets and keep the gold on you just in case you come back. If you are not going to do this then tough luck to you. If someone does not log in for 30 days then the statistics are that the person is not going to come back. This "But I spent this much on this WAHHH" way of thinking is just totally stupid and babying people.
