there's really no reason not to have this in this day and age. We're in the age of customisation! the choice to either show your armor or disguise it with something you personally feel fits your character better is one that should be given in ALL mmorpgs!

heck, even age of conan has it! If funcom took the time you know it's essential!

I think there needs to be a restriction in place tho. I'm thinking your equipment restricts what can have in your cosmetic slot, sooooooooo if you have heavy armor equiped on your chest, you only can have heavy armor in your cosmetic, and likewise with medium and light ETC.
If they give us this option, i really hope they apply them with your mentioned restrictions... if not... i remember aion... Gladiators in red sparkling dresses. Tanks in shorts, etc... it was horrible. I would welcome the cosmetic slots but only with these restrictions.

I would love the idea but I have to go against it, I have not play spiral knight but I had played game with similar feature as Forsaken World and Perfect World, the costume in those game is horrible and went the wrong way. Another opinion for the feature is remodel skin, the way it work as the player sacrifice the Item A to apply it look to Item B, by this way the DEV dont need to spend time to make the fashion item but they can focus on make the equip in-game pretty so player can use it for both fashion & combat/gather/craft

I just think they have faster ways to get to a more diverse look for the game then this.

This system unless its really strict (which removes the point of it in some ways) could mean we have tanks in gear that well just dosnt look like it'd keep them alive in the rain, let alone against a huge mob with teeth as big as a Lala.
While a lot of people wont care long as they look col, i like a little immersion/reality effect in games.

Id prefer at least atm if they worked on adding colour options to the gear, giving us dye choices post/during production.
(Body/trim/main/subext. keeping it related to the rank/material/colour system for some parts they used up till now.)

Then add variations on each item:
    - Dodoskin jerkin without the arms,
    - Different style/shape to the front and shoulders on scale male,
    - Variations on each type of weapon.
    - Hi rank/class/+1,2,3 versions having a bit more decoration maybe..
(small ribbon's off the handle of a +3 sword and so on).
What if it came with a

    "/display costume on/off" Setting?

It would only effect your world view on the cosmetics. I do understand the immersion factor is slightly at stake with a game that tries to be serious. But if you could disable the slot functions on your screen, much like main hand weapons now, it shouldn't be much of an issue.

I don't think that would help at all really, as all people with it off would be able to see is what we have now.

I do want to see a much greater variation in how people look, see peoples own style, colours and so on.
I just think the look to suit their role in the game world..
I'm sure we would till get some interesting looks using the colours available.
I'm not asking for it all to look serious (id love a mages hat with corks around the edge to go with my swimsuit)

Well, depending on how they handle how equipment works in the future, I wouldn't mind class specific cosmetics. The idea behind this thread initially was to add content to the game that could be very hard to obtain, but not matter for the performance of your character. The only way I could think of this is cosmetics that you can only obtain from difficult/long fights(not that all of them would be obtained this way). With the cosmetic/costume slot feature, they would be able to retain some value seeing as you could wear the equipment with no loss at all.

But going back to the immersion factor, another idea is to simply make another type of rarity, one that does not allow you to equip a certain armor in the cosmetic slot. That would prevent knights in hot pink dresses from appearing on the battlefield(unless you're for that sort of thing... by all means?).

This was brought up a while back, and I would love this rather than wearing ugly gear because the stats are good. I could then wear said ugly gear and not have it shown ^^

Ahhh Aion... that was the game I was mentioning and yes, Sequin dresses on a Tank or DD was ridiculous. It's cool to add humor but at times .... something like that just makes me feel the game is a joke. I know it's not real and to be fun but ffs don't be an a$$. -.-

Just wanted to bump this thread in response to letter XX.

The subject about Less Black and White, More Grey could be resolved by adding a separate statless costume tab that allowed you to "equip" any piece of armor you have obtained for looks only to customize your character's appearance in a DCUO style.

Alternatively (and my favorite option) they could add a synthesis process to separate the gear's attributes to convert them into materia, effectively making all gear subjected to this process statless and both the materia and base armor untradable. Which coupled with a dedicated materia slot for base stats would make a nice system to customize your character while also increasing demand for new armor.

Or something like that, since there are plenty of ways of doing this if there's the will to implement it.

I'm all for unrestricted cosmetic slots, personally. I like the way Lord of the Rings Online does it. I can wear whatever I want, whenever I want. Most of the time I see people being quite fashionable in how they put together outfits.

I personally would like to be able to wear a pair of glasses on a regular basis, regardless of their stats. That's just me though.

I don't think it should be restricted to whatever class you are at the moment, as that, in my opinion, kind of negates the purpose of cosmetic slots.
