The problem I think a lot of people have with AV, is almost all pre-50 content can be done by not really paying any attention to anything, and just hammering away until boss dies. then along comes something that has even a basic mechanic, and suddenly everything goes to shit. AV is one of those, specifically second boss. Brayflox NM last boss is another.

2nd boss, dps and healer are able to dodge every single move and take no damage the whole fight. All his moves can be dodged by running through him and standing behind whichever way he turns to face, except for Swing which you need to move away for (if no-one's stunning it)

AV have some horror stories because it is last braincheck we have:

    - tanks that does still not know how aggro works and willing to skip mobs with 47's in their party (at 47-48 your aggro range is way larger than 49 so you WILL NOT SKIP ANYTHING)
    - healers or dps without any positional awareness and pulling everything around (most evident at very start of duty)
    - no clue on required basic things and people still failing hard at eat fruit when needed or avoid aoe without marker

I'd mark this duty as a very good one to go in, to learn the very basics of anything you will have to face when 50.

Biggest problems for most people in AV:

1.) Healing. Don't know why since I don't heal, but apparently it's rough.
2.) Accidentally pulling extra mobs. The key to fixing this is simply going slow and pulling back. Some rooms it's ok to pull bigger as long as you have CDs available.
    3.) Second boss.

Also back in 2.0 when lag was a thing, instant cast Bad Breath on the last boss = fml.

When I've had trouble in AV, I notice it is typically two types of players causing there to be issues. The first is the new player who hasn't run any post-50 content, isn't familiar with what will become common mechanics, and might not be careful about pulling mobs and standing in poison. The other is the guy chain-running dungeons for his relic weapon. This "pro" player has been running ilevel 50 content for several hours with ilevel 110 gear, and forgets that he isn't superman anymore.

With these two players in our party, we end up fighting way too many trash mobs, the new guy doesn't know how to fight well, and the "pro" is melting because he is only ilevel 49 instead of 110. The pro starts shouting that the new guy is trash, the new guy is trying to figure things out but can't communicate well because he doesn't have a keyboard, and the group usually explodes right there in the first room.

Funny thing about the 2nd boss is that he wrecks people in AV and Coethas fate because he doesn't telegraph his one-hit kill attacks with normal aoe markers. He comes back in Halati Hard mode, but gets wrecked because we know his mechanics and have super-high ilevel. Then he comes back again as a trash mob in Snowcloak just to be further humiliated when we kill him as soon as he spawns.

It's just long...and not particularly fun in any way whatsoever. Occasionally, you'll get a group who'll run up and eat the fruit you're standing by (like you weren't planning on using it...) or people who aren't paying attention to how many stacks they have on themselves then wonder why they died.

It's only really bad now because people are so over geared for content 1 level high.. Then they go there and are like OMG this is hard.

This makes The Aurum Vale harder then almost everything in high level roulette.

I can't recall ever having had any problems with Aurum Vale's encounters. I just think (visually) it's a dreary place, with one swampy cave looking very much like the next. That just makes the run feel like it's dragging on and boring (for me, anyway).

AV is mentioned repeatedly as the worst dungeon for healers because:
    1) Tanks pull too much, but the mobs are roaming, so even if you think you pulled what you can handle, inevitably more will join the fight in progress, this bleeds MP since there's no time to recover, inevitably resulting in a wipe.
    2) Players step in things, ignore mechanics, eat the fruit at the wrong time
    3) This is one dungeon that you can't spam heals on, because you will run out of MP on every fight if you don't play it conservatively.

The second boss is actually easy, but you will get one-shotted every time if you aren't paying attention to the mechanics.

The third boss is the one that people gripe about because you have to eat the fruit on the second or third debuff, and not before, because the fruit won't grow back in time if you eat it before then. Most healers will tell you to wait for the third debuff because after that, they can't heal through it. Scholars have a different problem (the original 2013 2.0 version affected pets, so it was much harder then) where they are not as good as healing through debuffs, since their heals mostly involve shields, not hp-recovery.

After having run through AV several times I now see why people have issues with it. I'm good with the mechanics and still have a misstep here and there but overall its usually a smooth run. I think the biggest hurdle is just learning what's what in there.

Do it ten or more times and still not getting the Relic drop just sucks. Same goes for DD. Sac runs make it bearable, however if you do it under DF usually everyone want the exp. Honestly the drop rate for AV and DD sux. /shoot my self
