you must be playing a diff game or going WAY in the wrong direction. There are pretty well no agro mobs on roads. im 100% sure of this since i have like 6 chars now which i've ran to all cities at rank 1.Is everyone playing a different game from the one I am playing?xD
It certainly seems so, because when I travel from Limsa to Gridania, I usually lose count of how many times I'm attacked, including 2-3 deaths at least.
On my way from the sea to Ul'dah I get attacked and killed by ant-like things (~ rank 39?) which kill me with two hits, same goes for the way from Ul'dah to where the forest begins, only that there are rank 70-90 dragons, rank 40-50 dogs and other stuff there, too.
If I ever dare to stray from the path a little bit, I get caught by ~ rank 60 flies.
When I enter the forest, rank 50-70 baby dragons eat me for breakfast, and it's not like I have much space to go around them with those narrow ways.
Obviously I'm not attacking them, they are aggro.
They are either in the middle of the way or at least close to it.
And you are trying to tell me there's not enough sense of danger?o,O
Mew!

The current areas are designed so if you roam off the beaten track you will find aggro mobs, if you follow the paths you will be alot safer, if you want the danger get off the paths (which take a longer route than you could run)
sometimes antlions do get close to the roads, but they are VERY easy to avoid unless you dont pay attention

There are still occasional antlings near the path to the west of Camp Horizon and near the narrow winding path that leads to Camp Drybone -- not always, but they are there at times. I just ran past the Drybone antlings yesterday while doing a Mining Guild quest.
Anyway, in the lower level areas especially, I think Square Enix is being considerate of people who play DoL classes. It's very frustrating if you can't complete a leve because there are dangerous mobs keeping you from your task.
If anyone wants danger, just try going to reach one of the off-the-beaten-path far flung aetheryte gates by yourself or even with a friend or two. Goobbues, Drakes, Raptors, etc. etc. Very exciting! ^^

You made a good point about DoL being defenseless against ambush. I just re-read the latest letter from the producer though and found out that DoL is getting sneaking abilities to be able to harvest in peace. The whole letter seems to me to be hinting at an expansion of beastmen throughout the areas, and a more dangerous world. I think what would really be exciting is roving parties of beastmen in higher level areas. Who wouldn't want party vs party combat? There are still occasional antlings near the path to the west of Camp Horizon and near the narrow winding path that leads to Camp Drybone -- not always, but they are there at times.
