As a SMN main myself, I really don't like how the egis look, I mean carbuncle was just fine but I feel there is less detail than carby. I wouldn't mind if there were tiny fairy sized egis that are more in the same form as them, like Ifrit with his glowing tail, horns and same demon dragon face. Garuda with her 2 sets of wings and glistening green feathers. And...Titan with his flowing brown loincloth lol.

I say take current egis and make them into minions.

Maybe if we had a petition or something and get enough signatures we could get a redesign?

Also, are we going to get new egis in Heavensward? I'd like to see a king moogle mog, ramuh, shiva, leviathan egi.

I heard they are doing something different with SMN in 1.0 too and I like how SMN play but I'm open for whatever they do as long as I still enjoy the job.

I've seen so many of these compared to fixing the actual functions of the summoner.

Before we get to making them look pretty, it would be nice if we focused more on how they're used in battle. You can give the summoner an Ifrit that makes the sky go red with fire and cracks the earth beneath everyone and forms in a massive display that will force 8 users to freeze up log out and adjust their graphics settings. But if the summon still has the same functions as what it does now, it fixes nothing.

Then again if they did that then you would have your FFXI summoner. Summon the large Ifrit, and he charges up swings his hand back and gets ready to throw a ball of deadly fire at a bunny in the cape while you go "Yes..burning strike!!!!" ..and it misses. Bunny turns around moons your avatar and kicks sand in his face and your pet dies and it looks dead at you...ready to kill, just to have a goblin see the whole thing, agro, notice you don't have your pet out and throws down it's dagger to put on latex gloves to ready thousand years of pain!

I am not 100% on it with the egi. Infact I thought we would get lesser summons in a smaller size, but we didn't. Still beyond what the egi looks like I think we should be more concerned on the abilities our pets get, how they will function in battle. There are some good threads out there already but no where near the amount about the egi looks, and it concerns me when someone starts off with "I main summoner..." and follows with egi looks over pet adjustments, MP management suggestions for certain mobs, creating multiple uses for each different pet inside and outside party play with balanced adjustments for each. But that's me, I'd like my summons to be a destructive force and not just look like it.

Garuda became Garudasaur. Garuda learned "Skull Bash". But Garuda can't learn more than 4 moves. Delete a skill to make room for "Skull Bash" ?

I feel as though the current summons are just placeholders. Some thought went into their design, but they're polarizing compared to every FF summon prior. Even summons that aren't out yet (FFXV) crush XIV's summons.

Replacing the current egi models with miniature/chibi Puff of Darkness/Succubus version primals would bridge the gap between old style impact summons and current

Using Ramuh's mini-me Arbiters as an example were he to get his own egi, a combination of Primal and element can look pretty good. I don't mean Eos/Selene sized, more the primals scaled to egi size and then altered to fit. The primals have very tangible personalities, that don't translate to their egis. Changing them like this would allow SE to give egis their original's personalities and make them a bit more interactive instead of just a third of my damage that I have to babysit
You mailed it. If we can actually summon Garuda primal model but it was made Chibi sized like the cloud of darkness, NO ONE will complain

The reason the egis look very plain is because they're supposed to look like they're made out of aspected aetheryte crystal. When aether is condensed into a physical form in Eorzea it takes the form of a crystal. When we summon an egi we are condensing elemental aether into a physical form to fight on our behalf. I actually like how the egis look because it does make perfect sense within the lore. Now they certainly could do a lot to make them look a little more interesting but I don't think the basic concept is ever likely to change.

Based on the benchmark though it looks like we may be getting some improvements to our egis in Heavensward; one such being a skill or trait that appears to increase their size at level 60.

I kinda wonder what they plan to change about summoner in HW. I mean, we have 2 new egi's on the way at the very least (ramuh and levi). I wonder what exactly they plan to do with them, more so if they don't LARGELY change the mechanics of summoner's playstyle.

If they mostly stick to what they have now afterall it'll just end up being 2 more mostly useless egi's to ignore in place of titan for solo, garuda for everything else. To really make them useful, as well as open of further avenues for future egi's to be added, they need to revamp the whole summoner/egi playstyle.

Though I did have a thought the other day that they could potentially introduce multi egi gameplay. To compare to what I remember of wow lol, locks had certain demons they could call out on a temporary basis to fight along side their permanent pets.

If they did something along that line it could be alot better in general and maybe add a fraction of actual summoner feel to the rotation.... not that that fixes the egi's inherent problems themselves ;P

I need to eat more chicken nuggets, as I can only see Titan as a clump of floating rocks and nothing like food.

Model wise I'm fine with the summons, maybe a some more polys and a tiny bit bigger. The textures definitely need updating, though.

Yoshi-P is doing his best and is patching Endwalker. Please wait warmly until it is ready.

Duh lol, but, ya missed my point by a couple yards... Summons and the job, Summoner, have remained pretty much the same throughout the series (with very few exceptions). They summon what their own worlds know as "Avatars", "Aeons", "Esper's", gods/guardians, etc, or just random creatures. Their exact forms, not cheap imitations in incomplete forms.

Primals are the full creatures, the recognizable Final Fantasy summons that in many ways resemble what the series knows as Avatars/Aeons/etc. If we as Summoner's cannot summon these Primals, we are not Summoners in the sense of the Final Fantasy series has defined summoners. We're a cheap imitation, we can't even form the primals power in a way that resembles their physical incarnations like every other Final Fantasy series summoner has been in very game, numbered or not, It makes sense as Arcanist's but to become Summoners and not even be able to conjure the physical form of the things we intend to summon...? Yes, they can't please everyone, but I've yet to see (well here it will come) a thread saying how much they love these crap designs (unironically like people enjoying the Chicken Nugget monster that is Titan)

And FFXI and FFXIV Summoner are more closely related then you think. in XI, we are granted but a very tiny fraction of the Avatar's true power, same as we got in XIV. However the difference being in XI we were able to summon them in their actual form, although smaller and weaker. Lore isn't the reason we can't do this in XIV, its because as someone mentioned, Yoshi felt that in XI having their true forms being summoned "cheapened" them. We can toss "Lore" as an example when the Lead already told us why they look as crap as they do.

I wish they took a page out of AION's book. The spiritmaster's spirits get bigger and more menacing looking as the spiritmaster gets higher level.
