Trust me, it's not coincidence, it's a reference. Even the feet are angled the same. I'm not the only once who noticed this when idle poses were first released.

i agree with this, first thing i did when the idle pose was complete my WoL outfit and did the pose, the sword shield stance are identical, the feet point the same way and even the head faces in the same direction.

Rozarrian Empire of Final fantasy XII the new emperor of garlamald looks similar to Vain solidor in his power up state (said by a friend of mine) as well as there extensive use of airships as a main fortress (shown with the argile that was destroyed by midgarsomrr) as well as sharing the trait of using captsule's that creates magic rather then using the 'magic's' themselves.

That would be Archadian Empire. The Legate armors also bare resemblance to the Judge Magister armors.

In the same vein for FF6's Riot Blade Entry, Ninja also has Spinning Edge (Celes' Desperation Attack) as well as Shadow Fang (Shadow's Desperation).

I just hope that we get Mirage Dive on Ninja for the next batch of abilities =D

This is related to the Krile reference. She's mentioned as being part of the Students of Baldesion (haven't heard about those "Sons" of Baldesion, you sure it's not a typo?); the Students also are resident in the Isle of Bal. Castle Bal is the original name of FFV's Val Castle

This was such a nostalgic great read during my lunch break, and I was pleasantly surprised to see even though this thread was started back in 2013 when the game released that the OP has been updating the contents! Even with Golden Saucer info!!

Kudos to you. I apparently liked this thread back when it was created, but I wish I could like it again.

I feel slighted to say the least that after this thread being open for this long, that a pretty glaring Final Fantasy 12 reference is not in the list. Zodiark, who is the counterpart of Hydaleyn in FFXIV, was taken (in name, and most likely in strength) directly from Final Fantasy 12. Zodiark was the most powerful Esper in Final Fantasy 12, and was also the very last Hunt mob you fought. The pinnacle of your power in Final Fantasy 12 was tested by defeating Zodiark.

And just to nitpick a bit, in your Final Fantasy 8 section of references you have that you can get Zell's tattoo in character creation in two different spots on the list. #4 and #13. (i really did read all of these lol)

I didn't find this on the list, but I might have missed it, but either way:

Joseph, an NPC standing in the Chocobo Square of the FFXIV Gold Saucer, is a direct reference to Joe in FFVII chocobo racing, who was one of the hardest chocobos to beat in FFVII, having stats that literally always exceeded yours, regardless of how good of a chocobo you got. Joe actually appears as an NPC opponent on two different occasions in the actual FFXIV minigame as well. He appears in R-220 riding a chocobo named Toho Fuhai. He also appears in R-300, the highest possible class, racing his FFVII chocobo, a black chocobo named Teioh.

I saw that the AK(HM) boss reference was moved to possible references. I'd like to point out the excerpt from the FFXIV journal entry "For Keeps Sake" (AKHM quest)

Upon learning that it was you who purged the Lambs of Dalamud from the bowels of Amdapor Keep, Lauriane informs you there is one who would speak with you. His name is Brother Adestan, and he waits at Camp Tranquil in the South Shroud. Venture there to hear his story.

Brother Adestan reveals that he is investigating Amdapor Keep at the behest of A-Ruhn-Senna. New evil festers within the castle walls, and its source is voidsent invoked by an unknown fiend. While the mystery of the summoner can wait, the voidsent threat must be destroyed with all haste for the good of the Shroud. Adestan bids you speak with Maxinne, the guard watching over Amdapor Keep, that you might behold the terrors within for yourself.

Maxinne grants you entry to the castle, but not without a warning. The darkness inside has made the forest life turn savage and feral. It will pose a deadly challenge to you until the voidsent lord lurking at the castle's heart is defeated. ※Amdapor Keep (Hard) can be accessed via the Duty Finder.

You have felled the voidsent lord, a nightmarish being seemingly garbed in harlequin's attire. Return to Camp Tranquil and tell Brother Adestan that you have had the last laugh.

After hearing of your adventure, Adestan realizes the voidsent were summoned forth not by the living, but rather by the dead. The Lambs of Dalamud's dark rites had been complete but for blood. When you purged them, their vitality ran forth over the ground, and brought their foul rituals to fruition. Adestan wonders if the voidsent drew the Lambs to Amdapor in the first place, before dismissing such theories as improbable. He nevertheless thanks you for restoring peace to the Shroud.

He is dressed in jester (harlequin) garb, same as Kefka, shares a similar laugh, same posture, summons "Jesters" does a move called Jester's Reap. Dalamud Cult is usually represented as a group who merely wanted to end Eorzea for the sake of its destruction, much like Kefka (he merely wanted to destroy the world to destroy it). I'd say too much similarity for it to be a possibility. There is only ONE villain in the whole FFU that has a laugh like that, its iconic and clearly a tribute/nod to the famous villain. Just saying.

While riding Magitek Armor, the game now plays an orchestrated and altered version of Final Fantasy 6's "Opening Theme".

Technically, this is a version of "Terra/Tina's Theme", not "Opening Theme".
