But it DOES look new.
It just has to meet the restrictions of the art department. If it's TOO different they have to redesign nearly every piece of armor to fit them. Tails are already a problem.
The concept artwork is just very stylized. They really do actually look close enough to the concept artwork, aside from the arm spikes, which are wholly impractical for the in-game models.
