The parser being available to people isn't going to make them suddenly care about their performance. If they're dying constantly and not contributing, they already know. But they are counting on their party to help them out. Parsing only helps those that actually care about their DPS numbers and what to know where they stand and how to increase it.

Sounds like a good enough reason to have it to me.

I'm not arguing whether to have it or not. I don't care either way. Just saying having a Parser implemented isn't going to fix anyone's motivation to do better. That's something they need to acknowledge and want to fix on their own.

This. I've been in other MMOs with parsers. The grief is stupid bad. I will even give a case for Parse available in Pre Made Parties.

Another way to do it is have a solo battle, at current caps, that allows the player to know how they're doing; that can be re-taken as desired. Warcraft implemented the proving grounds, and you had to achieve silver grading or higher to duty into Cap content. From my friends still playing, they say while its a pain; it's helped alot.

The problem with wide spread parse:
If Player A is a BRD and isn't hitting X dps people will dismiss them because obviously they're a troll. It couldn't be that X is Max dps and the player has minimum ilvl for content. Or that Crit wasn't Maximized just so, so that they proc like mad so dont do enough proc damage. Or that their Acc is not optimal for content and they miss frequently. Suddenly player A isn't bad because they don't know rotation... its progression on their gear that is hurting their dps; but parse says Bad DPS so "Nope, your gone."

Can everyone who wants the parse admit this is a MAJOR problem with it and know it wont be functional as a community?

It doesn't really matter anyways because the fundamental problem is in encounter design and player motivation. As somebody mentioned earlier if a player sucks and knows they suck it's up to them to get better. Combat could also be a bit deeper than avoid the orange rings and keep your rotation on GCD.

Take it with a grain of salt, most players will know that low gear levels will mean low numbers, but you can still tell what is expected of that gear level and whether the player is meeting that metric or not. I think it will help many people, as when it becomes clear to them that they are lacking and a detriment to others, most human beings feel compelled to improve.

Yes, ideally. However, Most People have a tenancy to dig their heels in when faced with negatively; with is contrary to that. and Being told they suck, laughed at/mocked, etc causes this. My experience with parse shows this is how people is told their dps is lacking.

Which would be reportable, and very easily followed up on. I haven't sent a harassment report yet that wasn't responded to by the time I logged out.
But yeah, it'd create more opportunities for figuring out who needs teaching on their job's tricks than chances to show your butt.

:-) With this logic, you can say having a human brain creates opportunities for massacre, invention and a variety of other things. This is bringing it to the extremes, but in all honesty, it's a go-to argument as it's a touchy topic in this community.

Parsing isn't necessary, but it is wonderful in pin-pointing who is slacking and seeking ways to optimize oneself. Square Enix's stance on parsing is "don't use it" but there hasn't been a massive ban wave (or suspension) of those who do use it and use it positively.

Anyways, the most you can do at the moment is just kick people who are doing nothing. You can generally tell by their aggro bars in the party window, even though it doesn't represent the amount of DPS due to Quelling Strikes and a variety of different factors (adds, etc.).

I think introduce parsers but have it on a toggle.

You can choose to have your parse visible to party or not.
