Au Ra Twitter Campaign vs Console players

So, to all the people that are complaining about not being able to access the Au Ra creation tool that is PART of the benchmark (completely separate really)....what kind of PC do you have access to? You would be able to use a 10 year old laptop/PC for just the character creation, it doesn't have to be something super spiffy.

as for the console tablet or phone it is a 'small' market but it is bigger then one may think, i will use my university as an example we have over 7,000 students and i did a survey on over 6,000 of them (the ones i missed were due to not being in that day) i asked them if they had a PC tablet PS4 Xbone or none i saw over 2,400 students with a Ps4 but no PC, while roughly 3,000 had a PC, the remainder said they used there phones or tablets to access the internet it was done as part of my marketing research to understand and use a demographic, granted in a different scenario there may be a much bigger difference, but to shut off what is potentially a large part of your marketing demographic (this case Ps4 for the current demographic and mac being the smallest) seems as a dumb move,

also the PS4 can access the forums as well as Phones and tablets, i have tested it with my ps4 and i am posting this reply with my ps4

I'm personally shocked that that many students don't have a PC. How do they do things like... I dunno, write essays? I know you can write things on a phone or tablet but it's not the easiest thing in the world to do, and I definitely wouldn't want to write a multi-page essay on one.

Have you been paying attention to the gaming market at all for the last 7-8 years? Game makers by and large ignore the PC market, they either make games exclusive to 1 console or a couple but don't bother with a PC version. When they do make a PC version, a lot of the time it's just a port of the console and ignores the fact PC users typically use a keyboard and a mouse, and that PC's give a plethora of graphical options that consoles never would offer. If you've ever played MW2 on a PC, you'd see how limiting it was., you could tell within the first 5 minutes of running the game that a PC version was an after thought. So the one time PC users get something that console users of the same game do not get on their console, but can still access with a little thought and or effort on their part and you whine like children?

MMOs are primarily a PC market, console players are the minority here, and those that play on a console without access to a laptop or a PC are even fewer. You can't please everyone, but apparently if you do not please the "consoles 4 lief" players, then everyone else gets to put up with lots of temper tantrums.

So, I was curious to see how the event was excluding the console and was reading through the event details.

The only mandatory requirements I see are: (1) using the Benchmark, (2) having a Twitter account, (3) have a S-E account with an active FFXIV subscription, and (4) be from North America.

I'm not sure how this is a PC exclusive. FFXIV players of all stripes have access to the benchmark as long as they have a PC that can download it. For example, I have a friend who is a PS4 player who was able to download the benchmark on their PC and make an Au Ra using the character creator. Friend in question ran the benchmark for giggles and got an abysmal 1K score, which according to S-E is a rating that is a PC "capable of running the game, but will experience considerable slowdown. Adjusting settings is unlikely to improve performance." Yet, she was able to make Au Ra in character creation and showcase them to myself on Skype for me to oogle over. You don't need a PC capable of playing XIV to make use of the character creator - just a PC to download the program and use it to post your work (or send it to your PS4 and upload it to Twitter from there).

While I can appreciate that some console players may not have a PC, I'm pretty sure that sect of people fall into a very small minority. While it would be nice to cater to everyone, I don't think S-E can do this without expending considerable effort and resources to do so.

Okay...I'm going to be mean here. I'm a PS3 player and will not upgrade no time soon. With that said, you think S.E. would want to see PS3 graphics on their promotional game advertisement contest. I'll spare them that.

Now not having a PC... okay, how are those on console that claim don't have a PC desktop/labtop/MAC are able to access their mogstation. I know that on Playstations it can no longer be done, but correct me if I'm wrong if PS4 can still. Though this is kind of irrelevant....

SE releases the benchmark.
Creates event around the benchmark.
Benchmark isn't created for PS4 due to console limitations in terms of downloading it, and the fact that it's just not needed.

Sounds like you should've bought a PC. I'm not even saying that to be all PC master race, the fact is you buy a console you understand that it comes with certain limitations for that package. If you want it to be able to do more, then either go shout at Sony or go buy a system that can. This is like a mac user ranting and raving about having to use bootcamp to run windows on their macbook. Should the dev team spend more of their time creating a benchmark that's downloadable through the PS4 marketplace, thus wasting thier time on a tool that is absolutely USELESS for PS4 users and for their own testing purposes?

Pretty sure most of the console playerbase has access to a PC that could run the benchmark character configuration anyway.

I'm going to stop you right there. you do realize a good portion of laptop and tablet users are using PC hardware right? a lot of people do not. so that question if you were vague is not the right one. yeah that's right you know that spiffy Surface Pro? guess what? it's a tablet that also happens to be a PC.

you ask a lot of people out there if they have a PC they will say "no I have a laptop" you gotta ask the right questions if you want accurate results.
simply ask.
does your tablet use windows? if yes ask which version. I suspect you will be surprised with the results
since you didn't ask if people had laptops they probably didn't think that was included in your question.

I literally have to explain to some people that a laptop is a PC with limited upgradability designed for convenience of portability
and that many tablets are infact also PC hardware

The benchmark doesn't have very stern requirements for running. DirectX 9 and Windows Vista/7 are pretty much all it needs. If you're posting in this thread, your computer most likely is beefy enough to run it. It may not run it WELL, but it will run it. If it runs, you should be able to crank out an Au Ra. It might be slow and jerky if your computer really does suck, but give it a try before assuming that the benchmark won't work for you!

not a valid argument since they can access the forums from the web browser on the PS4(I'm fairly certain of this, also pretty sure the PS3 can as well, someone verify if this is true or not for the PS3/4 please), a smart phone, a non windows tablet or even a mac(nothing against macs but they dont get a native version of the benchmark)
