So yeah, I just saw that the community team has a cool new event up! I was excited for the benchmark video and looked at the Au Ra creation threads with envy and glee. I'm sure lots of other peeps looked at them too and just couldn't wait to create an Au Ra...

But then the community team decided that an event that was exclusively for PC players was a good idea. >_> Which, yeah, it's really not. Thanks for excluding a good portion of your player subscriptions.

Yep, I got flack for writing about my displeasure of particulars relating to an event recently from the mods, so I gave up because it didn't seem like they cared really. But I do share your irritation and disappointment.

It's not exclusive to PC players. You just need a PC to access it. Said PC just needs to be able to download and use the benchmark. You can literally enter this contest by downloading it to a computer at a net cafe and using it there.
It in no way requires the PC client to use.
Nowhere in the contest rules does it stipulate "PC users only"

As a person who plays XIV on a console exclusively, and one who does not have access to a PC suitable to run the benchmark anywhere near him, I feel this event caters towards those who play on PC. Even if I had a net cafe located around me--which I don't--it's still a fact that it's much more convenient and accessible to those playing on PC.

Let's not forget that even if I did have a suitable PC around, I'd still have to create my Au Ra, take the screenshot, and tweet it all from a PC. All of this done on the PC and without any interaction at all being from my console. That is a PC event as far as I'm concerned.

I'm unable to participate in this event because I am a console player with no way to access the benchmark. An event utilizing it is unfair to me.

But, seriously, if you use this form of thinking, console players lose out on a LOT of content. Voice chats (for everyone, ps4 chat doesn't even count slightly), The Forums in general, Website integrations, benchmark, *coughaddonscough*, even graphics settings tweaks aren't available to console players.

It does happen. The MMO market grew up on PC, so its natural that a lot of the technology that the MMO playerbase have developed to better their gameplay experiences would be PC only. Consoles are trying to catch up, but they aren't there yet.

Asking SE to not use any resources that aren't available on a console, severely limits what they can do. The game itself doesn't allow for a lot of interactions of that sort, and there isn't a built in UI for contests. Even if there would, players would mistake them as Ads anyways, and we would get complaints about that too.

Can't afford one? Be happy you have a console to play the game on. INB4 I can't afford a PC - I built a PC for as much as my PS4 cost that is capable of running the game at maximum settings pulling a hare below an 8k score.

I am very curious how you built a PC that pulls 8k at max when my cheap PC that pulls 5-6k cost like 50% more than I paid for my PS4 (600ish before taxes and shipping for pc parts not including case over $350 for my PS4) using on sale parts (ordered from the cheapest REPUTABLE sites) that are outdated (what with even a GTX660 costing just under half the price of a PS4 and lets be real at that point spend the extra $20-30 to get a 960) <.<

not starting a console vs pc thing here I am just legitimately curious as I may be interested in upgrading if its going to be less than $350 for all the parts for a full PC (minus the case of course I can just keep reusing mine until it rusts for all I care its just a box) thats going to run the game almost 30% better

I have never built a PC myself, but it is to my understanding that (so long as you know what you are doing/have someone to help who does while learning) building a PC is always going to be cheaper than actually buying one yourself.

thats what I did for my cheap PC (which is why I said parts maybe you missed that) but stuff like GPU's arent cheap so when he is saying he built his PC and gets 8k for the same cost of a PS4 (which launched at $400) I am curious what parts and where he got them.

For example my build is i7 3770k (last generation on clearance pricing) CPU is $250 and my gtx 660 gpu (quite old) is $180 that alone is already $430, thats before the RAM PSU motherboard and HDD and I only get just shy of 5k on max.

If for $350-400 I can build a brand new PC that will get that much better performance I am curious as to how so I can look into actually doing it otherwise I find the hyperbole to be a bit misleading which may deter people from even trying to build a gaming PC who feel like they are being ripped off after being told its going to cost $350 and they find out its really 600-700 for an average setup (not even a good setup).

I am not picky about playing on the best settings and I enjoy the game on both PC PS4 and even my tablet and I have no bias between 1 system or the other they all do the same thing.
