Let the people on consoles play with Au Ru customization

The Benchmark is a stand alone download that is not in any way tied to the current PC client of FFXIV. They didn't just let us download an option that we can pick at the launcher. So yes, they WOULD have to go through Sony's approval process to get you a character creator or benchmark for your console of choice. The unfortunate reality of it is, is that this ship has sailed. It is too late for them to do this and have it to you before you can just make your own characters at the start of the expansion. Many folks have suggested that you just snag it on any old pc you can and give the creator a spin. Is it as convenient as loading in a saved setting? No. But it can help save the truly discerning types a good handful of work at launch if they make note of their selections.

Since the character creator used in the benchmark is NOT part of the game, this means it's a separate application, which must be approved. In addition, while the benchmark will continue to be useful after launch to test new set-ups, a bonus character creator will be completely useless after launch.
Though actually yes! it totally will be part of the game! On June 19th. Before then, it'd have to be a separate application.

You don't understand. Whenever you want to post a game, app, dlc, or patch to PSN Store you need to go through Sony's approval and pay fees. Sometimes patch fees could be $40k. Sony also will have people test your software before approval and can reject it if it doesn't meet their lot checks (requirements).

I'm telling you this, not because I want to keep the PS4 users down or blah blah PC Master race... You can file this in your "i don't care" bin, but I've been a game programmer for a little over 6 yrs and worked with nintendo, sony, and microsoft consoles. PC is by far the easiest platform to dev.

Did you all notice that the OP said oh!!!!! I am going to download the program now that I know is a separate app from the game and any PC can have it. The OP was just stubborn to actually read what other players were saying or didn't understand the messages.

This is a benchmark tool. The file size zipped is 1.58gb. The reason why SE released this application is NOT to give the PC users a "unfair" advantage. They released this because unlike a gaming console that is locked into a specific OS and Hardware configuration, PCs (including MAC to some extent) have a myriad of variables in BOTH the environment and the hardware.
I am not an expert on how Sony does things for you all on the PS4 land, but IF the others are correct then making a test client that you do not NEED that will cost them out of pocket, non-recoverable expenses is foolish from a profit point of view.

We all made choices to our gaming platforms. Each choice comes with advantages and losses. You get an advantage in knowing that your platform will work as good as anyone else on your platform. PC users have no such assurances.

Ya I know it's separate that's not what I'm saying oh and to let you know I couldn't even download the first games benchmark on my laptop as in 1.0 2nd I went to sleep at night so no I didn't even bother staying up to even try to down load it.

And I know it's to test the persons PC to see how well it will run didn't know it was a separate app thanks for that. My point is that console people should be able to play around with the character creator for Au Ra too and be able to import it onto their account and why not. And if the benchmark is just to test the persons PC....

Then I say remove the Au Ra character customization option and make it not importable on to the expansion cause if you just testing your PC why you need it?

Gawd, go install it on your computer at home, and then take 2 minute copying down your info. Take another 2 minutes once the game officially launches and input the saved character data. At this point you're just complaining to complain.

Do you realize the amount of hype that is generated just by allowing people to play with a new race that is coming out? SE would be stupid to remove that from the benchmark. Yes, a benchmark is a functional tool for PC users, but also a huge marketing tool for SE.

Others in this thread have explained why it would not be a smart decision for SE to waste time and resources trying to get a stand-alone character creator pushed through with Sony. Sometimes life is disappointing, and this is just one of those times that you'll have to suck it up and realize you can't get things exactly how you want.
