I been both i enjoy lalafall when playing BLM/SMN but i like Elezen due to the fact that i can see the full look of my gear. So it really up to you if you like being small or tall

The gear thing was one of the deciding factors of why I went Miqo'te over Lalafell. I wanted to see the full details of gear so I needed a slightly taller character.

OP, why don't you make a test character on different servers of each race? Or if you have the standard subscription, make alts with both Elezen and Lala to test for yourself. That way you can move around, test the full range of emotes, and even get a sense for how they look in combat. That's what I did when I made my first character. First person experience goes a long way

Your Fantasia is a lovely one use thing, but if you have a scarcely populated server to test on, get a feel for yourself how the different races and voices look and act in the opening cutscene and first three levels of combat.
I highly suggest doing so as an Archer because they are the single most vocal combat class. You'll know within a couple seconds if you like or dislike the battle cries you give in combat due to their rate of "Hya!" while an arrow flies.
