They need to take steps to deal with the demand first and foremost. When your game design pretty much forces players to choose between a long arduous grind or forking out north of 500K gil for items to progress through content (not just one time purchases here either, mind you), you have pretty much assured a market for these sweat shops to farm gil around the clock and sell it to the impatient players.

Well I was on Behemoth back when it was pretty much the most populated server, it took nearly a year to fill my blacklist.
On Odin I currently have about 15 people blacklisted in the last 6 months.
If you don't blacklist them, obviously they will continue to message you.

I don't even remember the last time I actually got a tell from one, it's the 1 time a day friend request they try for me. thats it.

If your server is lower population, I don't know about malboro's numbers, it could be due to them going through the lower amount of names quicker.

This is an oft touted "solution" and it wouldn't work. People who break the rules in the first place don't think they're going to get caught so even the harshest of punishments wouldn't really curb the amount of people buying.

    Still doesn't require multiple threads.

With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.

Except that this solution has a proven effective history with WoW. So yes, it would work, it is not just theory.

I literally blacklist one every few minutes... Easily 40 to 50 a day. That is how bad it is.

My BS detector just went off. Let me guess, you ran Aurum Vale 143 times before your zodiac item dropped?

It's not bs, click the spoiler tag below.

We don't all have it as good as you do on Balmung. Just because your server is relatively light on the spam does not mean all servers share your experience.

Not sure why people think the number of RMT tells is very light. No. They do spam a lot. Just make a fresh character and play around a bit on these RMT heavy servers. You'll see and understand the complaints. Blacklisting them doesn't solve the issue when they can just MAKE A NEW CHARACTER and start the process over. It's a problem, but just because it isn't yours doesn't mean it can just be dismissed entirely.

That aside, the best way to solve this is IP Addresses bans, Character restrictions or 'Story Completion'(Level) up to X point. This would at least slow down the spam process. I personally wouldn't be bothered if I didn't get them within every 1-5 minutes in multiples.
