You'd expect "Yo I can't buy a house there's literally no room" wouldn't have any other response than "that's messed up they need to fix this," but welcome to the final fantasy forums I guess!

Insanity is a gradual process, don't rush it - Ford Prefect

Ya, they really need to address this for the higher populated server. It is no longer going to be ok to say "deal with it". If they want to entice new players to come from other games, they need to be able to successfully (re)create their guilds.

As a fan of the Final Fantasy series who have played since Final Fantasy III, I am extremely disappointed with how FF14 is handling housing and airship content.

OMG... After reading over this thread, I think I'm starting to see why RMT is such a big issue in this game for those on certain worlds (esp. larger populated ones). RMT isn't just a by-product of a sub-culture amongst some less scrupulous players; rather, it's built into this game's foundation with no official means to satisfy certain felt needs: lack of availability of scarce resources and feasibility of acquiring them.
For some players, acquiring Gil is like breathing (pun intended). They play long hours, devote much of their time and energy into this game's various pursuits, and are subsequently rewarded. A few are gifted in forecasting market trends and being the first to market with highly sought after prizes. It is no surprise that either of these two groups of players would be able to afford - and be amongst the first - to acquire the newest shiniest things in this game. However, for others - even though they want them just as much (I guess, for them, it's seen as a necessary requirement to fully enjoy this game -- or maybe just keeping up with the Jones'), they find themselves unable to acquire them at an opportune time, and therefor lacking in its availability.
Scarcity: meaning that there is only so much of something available - even though there is tons of demand for it - is a play by the Devs to restrict quantities and thereby (in their eyes) preserve player economies. However, the 2nd edge of this double-edged sword is that it creates competition between players: the "have nots" vs. the "haves". Since Gil is the greater equalizer amongst players, it actually pushes demand up for quicker and alternative methods of acquiring it.
Gil: the game's form of fiat currency. Baring unexpected windfalls and lucky breaks, it roughly translates to a proportionate measure of time spent pursuing activities geared towards earning it. For most, it is typically slow to earn, but fast to burn. Because of this, saving up enough to buy a player house is a long-term objective. But as the OP stated, (s)he was a day late and a Gil short.
And, here in this thread we are seeing players willing to part with hundreds of dollars to transfer to another world for the slim (but hopefully better) chance at getting a house. What if some players - who may have contemplated transfer fees in the Mog Station - contemplated remaining in their higher pop. world and buying Gil from RMTers, so they could afford their houses sooner?
I think we can all connect the dots now, right?
Square Enix might be missing an opportunity to both reduce the demand for RMT and subsequently add to their Mog Station's product offerings...just sayin'...
In contrast, most other MMOs I know of harmonize conditions of inter-player competition over resources (like real estate) by making available more than one means of acquisition, or reducing scarcity.

100% agree with you. I stopped playing for a while and came back shortly after one of the patches that introduced new housing ward. I expected to be able to pop in and get a house for around 5m but yeah, they were all gone. I as well am on a populated server but still, this shouldnt affect something thats such a big part of the game in my opinion.

As I've mentioned before, I just don't like how they keep adding new things into gardening. Being able to garden whatever crops for crafting was enough.
Now they added Chocobo dyes, Thavnarian Onions, Minions, etc.
They not only made it so that owning a house is a luxury they made it so that it's a worthwhile investment. That the millions you've saved up will be earned back via gardening. In fact, there are FCs/ people who own lots of plots and turn them into farms.
Then there's also the neat FC things that they plan of implementing that many new FCs will never be able to do since all plots are gone.
It's not true when people say housing is mere vanity when they keep adding things that allows you to make a profit with minimum effort.

My friend and I mainly want a guild house for our small guild so we can do things like dye our chocobos and not be wandering mercs anymore but who knows if we'll save up enough to get a medium plot before they're all gone like the small ones. Hopefully 3.0 brings some improvements to the housing districts but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Gear is given almost freely to everyone in this game. Everything can be achieved and aquired at a very easy and fast pace so something being unique/rare and not easy to aquire should be in the game. Housing on Balmung is one of those items as gil is not really required in the majority of activities in the same so housing should not necessarily be for everyone. If you cannot personally own your own housing then it is quite easy to find a free company with such housing that you can enjoy chocobo stables and gardens.

Not everyone wants to join an existing guild. Many people like to start their own with close knit friends or want more control of how its run, maybe they want to be recognized as a particular guild. Lots of the big guilds have requirements you have to meet and or maintain. This is not always an option, especially when the FC's are limited in their members. i have heard of some FC's that have to make more than one FC just to accommodate all its members. What might be a solution and is coming for 3.0 is FC alliances, but how limited will they be? How about furnishing? You might be able to get a room but that's not what people expect when they hear housing.Gear is given almost freely to everyone in this game. That might be a solution for some people but is not a permanent solution, especially when you are hoping to appeal to new players. Many MMO players are interested in housing and it can really sell someone on their game. I would happily sacrifice the neighborhood setup for something like the Georama setup in WKC or the plots in WildStar.
