Trial accounts would be pretty useless to gil sellers. They can't be used for spam since trial accounts are blocked from /tell, /shout, and /yell. And they can't farm gil because they don't have access to Trade, the Market Board, or to FC chests, so would have no way to pass their gil or items to either customers or alternate accounts of their own. The gilsellers are using paid (though in some cases stolen) accounts.

(Besides, this problem has been rampant here since long before the Free Trial program was created.)

Still doesn't answer why the Friend requests don't go away regardless. They should work like party or FC invites. Someone can invite you to a party or FC and you have a certain timeframe in which to accept or the invite times out. It seems that Friend invites never time out. If it were a legitimate player you were wanting to Friend, you'd have accepted when it was sent (or a few minutes later if you were busy). There's no reason for the invite to still be around an hour later, let alone a week or more later.

That glitch pales in comparison to SE's refusal to accept "No" as an answer to the invite, though.
