I've been on seven heat waves now and nothing, think I'm done with fishing, just cannot stand the range bs, if you have the stats the fish should never "get away", that upsets me more than anything.

Well sorry that your giving up. Yeah its tough, and it really gets discouraging but just stay with it, you'll get your first one and things will change

Can't even catch the carvan eel let alone that one, I have the stats and been at it for hours but nothing after quite alot of mooches, just dune manta everytime

Does anybody know what the percentage chance on "the fish gets" away is? Every time this thing is escaping, with food going I have 358 gathering, 368 if the FC buff is up and 284 perception. Just curious if there is an actual number on it. But honestly I am on heat wave #12 now and still nothing, pisses me off I am being gated by RNG to do other things, waste hours but get nowhere. At least with Mining and Harvesting when I was going for the Supras I could tell where I was at with the rocks/logs I needed.

Ignore your stats, RNG is RNG. Your just going to have to accept it or give up and move on.....

While I'm sure there are people who can focus on fishing 100% for hours at a time, I'm not one of them. Fortunately, fishing doesn't require focus, since it's so simple. Turn on the TV, read a book, browse the Internet, do some cooking - whatever you like to occupy yourself while you're fishing. The only time you need to pay any attention is when you get a mooch fish, and that's only if your Big Fish requires mooching. Otherwise, just cast, catch, cast, catch... Easy to do while reading, or whatever.

To me, it's no surprise if you get drowsy after 10 minutes of fishing - so be sure to do something OTHER than fishing while fishing, to prevent the boredom from setting in.
