No they wouldn't. Remember, Elidibus mentioned that if we knew a certain something that the Ascians knew, the we would likely end up joining them. What if the evil one is actually Hydaelin?
You're assuming they're rational believers. Lots of evil people are convinced that if only they could 'show the other side the truth' that they'd see how logical [insert crazy evil plot here] really is. When in reality any normal person can clearly see they're bonkers.

This will depend on how you define evil but if we look simply at the actions of the Ascians and the immense suffering, chaos, pain and death they have brought through the actions we know of and the actions we suspect then I find it hard to say that their actions and by association the actions of their deity aren't evil.
