There are several things that are universally worth enough gil to take with you.
    • Rare minions - Nutkin, Fat Cat, Bluebird, etc
    • Materia/Demimateria - just be wary with TV materia coming up in expansion
    • Shards/Crystals/Clusters - you can have 9,999 of each on yourself plus each retainer
    • Crafting Materials - old philo tome items are good

Lots of people also sell Allagan pieces on the MB for this reason. You can buy enough to get under 1 million Gil, and then just sell them to an NPC on your new server to get your money back.

Being a server transferee twice, I was able to play with the market and make profit from buying stuff off the MB and selling it on the new server, though that was just a few mil.

Now that I have settled in nicely in Balmung and have closer to 50 mil >_> it be a bit more difficult to do that again.

The gil cap is for each character. I had a friend transferring to Tonberry by making multiple characters to split the gil. Though you would need a friend or FC bank access to do this.

in awnser to raising the cap, i say no if your smart you can go around it in clever ways, but keeping it to one million means were not going o have people come to a different server and pump a lot of money into a place that didn't have it, say you came in with 100 mil, that 100 mil would be added to that worlds economy and basic economy 101 that would mean the value of things would be less, so people would have to jack the prices up to compensate ultimately screwing the poor peeps.

as stoutertaru said just be smart get things you always wanted or buy things you know ultimately sells, that way your pumping money back into your economy then regaining money from that worlds economy doing it this way dosnt pump a large amount of gil into the world due to it being in the world.

Buying items to resell is definitely the smart way to go about it. If you're moving from a server where a Bluebird sells for 50 million to a server where it sells for 2 million, it's not because Bluebirds are rarer on your server, it's because there's more money in the economy. 2 million has as much buying power there as 50 million has on your home server.

Someone who buys 100 million gil worth of stuff on their home server, moves to a new one, and sells everything for only 5 million, is still just as wealthy as they were before.

Im sorry but I will have to say no about your petiton. I transfered twice, and all I had to do was go on the MB and buy expensive things, and re sell it after the transfer which even give me some profit. I also support this restriction.

It seems like if you want to get around the restriction (and maximize the value of the things you're bringing), you'll have to do one of two things depending on if you're transferring to a server with higher gil value or a lower.

If you're transferring to a server with a higher gil value (everything on the MB is cheaper). You'll want to buy the things that have a constant value (clear demateria, those vendor things you get from quests), then sell them back to the vendor once you transferred.

If you're transferring to a server with a lower gil value (everything on the MB is more expensive). You'll want to buy popular MB items that you can re-sell on the MB once you're on the new server (materia, demateria, shards, crystals).

Either way, the more gil you have, the more effort it's going to take to turn all that gil into inventory.

I knew one player who did this as it was. Bought tons of crit and det 4 materia from one server and sold it at 4x the price on another. Last I heard he had made almost 200m this way. Remove this limit and this kind of practice becomes completely common place. There is no good reason to allow this behavior at all.
And aren't ppl doing this to circumvent the restriction already? The result is the same - ppl buy low sell high. To be honest, if there is no restriction on transfer gil limit, I would't even bother to "buy low sell high". If i'm forced to buy items to circumvent, then I might as well make a profit on it. Besides, you need to pay real money for transfers, not like it's free. If ppl are willing to keep paying transfer fees to "play the stock", well then, good for them. No difference from paying real money for gil.

There is probably some of this going on, but it is very likely not as rampant as it would be if you could just carry all of your gil instead. There's a WHOLE lotta slowdown due to the fact that you have to wait for all your items to sell before you can buy up new stuff, return, and then sell AGAIN to get your profits.

While there are undoubtedly a few tycoons out there who study the economies of each server, determine which items sell best where, and engage in server transfers to exploit the markets, that's a WHOLE lot more research and work than an average player is willing to deal with.
