While we're at it can we make it so that "optional" content like the Hilibrand is not necessary for trial roulette?

I'm all for this. It's fine if those trials are in the roulette but they shouldn't be necessary just to unlock the trial roulette. I tend to take my time with getting to those side quests and it kinda sucks being locked out of trial roulette each major patch for however long it takes me to make it around to doing those.

On topic: heroes aren't all about killing bad guys and doing the impossible. By doing these little things, helping people out, we show others that we're still people, and we care about those that we're helping by killing those bad guys. I sure wouldn't think of the story the same if it was "hey go kill Ifrit" directly to "hey go kill Titan." I'm not just some force of nature (okay, that could be argued, but still). Sure, it might be excessive sometimes (i.e. Titan and cheese). Sure, NPCs in game literally poke fun at the fetch quests. But connecting with the people is what generates such a great reputation - a reputation that allows us to return to the city-states after...recent incidents.

I'm guessing you don't play many other MMO's either, since most of them tend to be filler with very little plot.

Tell me about it, what makes the Final Fantasy MMOs unique is at least the filler has story to it. That freak in upper Central Shroud that has you help with her research... I genuinely felt sorry for her research subjects and her assistant! And when that lazy Tidus Killer had me doing his job for him it was extremely gratifying when I got to show him up to his face and see him cower like the punk he is. You don't get that from the quests of other games. I played the free trial of WoW back when it was just 10 days... none of the quests I did made me feel compelled to continue. All I got were text blurbs giving lore and no real reasons why I should care.

People seem to forget this is an RPG game. If you don't like Questing and reading texts then don't play an RPG. Just because it's an Online RPG it doesn't mean you have to be max lvl max gear in 2 days. I mean c'mon. The lvling part is the best part of the game. During the time you spend to lvl up you also get involved with the storyline, the lore, the characters, the topography and the game mechanics.

Except you don't get experience from level 50 quests. Most of them are useless filler with boring stories and quests.

Is this a joke thread? Or is the OP serious in asking for LESS content? Why don't we just give the best gear to everyone and make it so that all we have to do is click NPCs to get one cutscene after the other, telling us the whole story without any annoying distractions like quests or fighting!

Not asking for less content. I'm asking for several hundred quests be removed and re-added as optional content for the base story. They should unlock as you complete base storyline quests that actually make the story push forward. There is no "loss" of content here.
