I meant specifically for people who haven't/are talking about alts they need to level or whatever. And for those who have, I don't see what the problem is. (Unless they're talking about newer players, to which I said "what are they entitled to?")
Now lets use our brains for a second ok?
Me: "Talks about how awesome of a time he has had in X Game."
Friend: "Wow, that sounds like a great game! You seem to be having a lot of fun in this game, and the new content sounds awesome! They are raising the level cap so I have a chance to play with you right?"
Me: "Pauses... reddens.."
Friend: "Whats wrong?"
Me: "Sorry, but I won't be able to play with you for awhile."
Friend: "Uhm.. but that sounds ridiculous, why?"
Me: "*Huge Breathe..* First you have to complete all the story content, then you have to get a certain ilvl, then after 50 you need to complete about 150-180 more quests, even more then you had to do to level 50. Then after that you have to complete the level 50-60 quests all whilst playing with pugs and new players since nobody really needs to do most of that content anymore."
Friend: ".... Enjoy your game man."
No one likes talking to you because every time you present an argument you get edgy.
Everyone else was trying to be civil.

With your little scenario. You seem like you don't even wanna help said friend to be with you in the end-game.
You could help them. You also act like after expac you can't return to the base game lmao.
Me: Hey, HW is out but you have to finish MSQ [Lame I know.] to play HW pac.
Friend: Oh I see...
Me: Don't worry, I'll help you level, hopefully you enjoy this game enough to even wanna try expansion with me! If you're a DPS, I'll be a healer/tank so you can get better queue's.
Enjoy the game until you're ready to hit the expansion though!
Friend: Oh thanks! You're a great friend.
Friend either rushes to the end or enjoys it. -Shrugs;

How many of those games also required you to play a new toon in order to play those classes?Silentwindfr:
You made a good point about each city state having some classes/jobs that revolve around them. Your point here sort of falls off with the Ninja job that is not in a city (the class Rogue is, but the new jobs have NO class).
Why couldn't a warrior of light come from Ishgarde? If you started there then you are not in fact a stranger.
And again if the STORY is the end all and be all foundation, are you willing to have all of Thanalan shut off due to the current storyline events?
This is my first SE game, but with the exception of the WoLK (and Blizzard is on record saying the gating of the DK was a mistake) this is the first game I have encountered that locked away the playable classes from those that bought the expansion from day one.
Very important difference.
How about we use our manners for a second and not needlessly insult people before trying to make a point, ok?
Now, I get what you're saying. However, SE doesn't have to roll out red carpet in the form of a free boost to level 50 or new jobs they can access the moment their character is made. If we had to go through all of that shit, they should have to go through it, too. It's only fair. Just because they jumped on the bandwagon at the time of an expansion, that doesn't mean they're entitled to some easy ride. If the new/potential player doesn't like it... Oh, well. That's an MMORPG for you.
Thats not rolling out a red carpet. You are just assuming that. How about we use our manners for a second and not needlessly insult people before trying to make a point, ok?

What they need to do, is take those 150 quests (which are mostly filler anyways, and completely silly.) and make them 15 quests instead. That would make it much easier for new players whilst keeping them in the story.
So what if thats an "Easy Ride", you already have an advantage by having access to better gear, more gil, friends. They are going to have a much harder time doing that because they don't have these things when they start out.
Look whose entitled now?
Look, when you say something you have to look at "the Big Picture." Not the small one.
Sure it does. You would be an asset to any major corp that makes decisions that rank in the millions of dollars. Position in the company is irrelevant. Most of these companies love to recruit and develop from within too.
My position with said company is meaningless. It is the scope and size that is important. And that is what I am referencing.
