Alas, their leaders are set upon the complete annihilation of Eorzea. A point upon which there is scarce room for compromise.
Once the truth of this became apparent, we Monetarists granted our support to Raubahn and his Immortal Flames. But our largess extends no further than our borders. We will not finance the whims of the other nations.
Though this quote is from 1.0, I think it still holds its worth. Lord Lolorito has no desire to help Garlemald ruin his business in Ul'dah or with the rest of Eorzea. Nuff said.

That's just it. I think they did.

Ul'dah is a powder keg ready to blow; the only reason it hasn't descended into civil war is because information on the incident is being withheld.
I think the problem is that they may not have counted on Teleji getting cleanly offed. There was that point about Lolorito not being pleased with the handmaiden.

What if he feels he can make more money in a Garlean-rule Eorzea? Premise #1 on my part is that this dissolves the current Eorzean Alliance.

I think it's clear he'd serve exactly who gives him the most money.

Not quite. I'm convinced Teledji was always intended to get offed by Raubahn; Lolorito planned even that. It was either that or he just couldn't resist mouthing off. Only Teledji and Lolorito know that, and we're not going to be able to ask either any time soon.

Either way, the main thing they didn't count on was you being freed. The point of the painstaking effort they went to with the coup was to make it look as lawful as possible. That way power would cleanly transition over to the Monetarists without any kind of civil strife. It was a perfect setup given the state of corruption in Ul'dah.

I don't really know what the scene with the handmaiden and Lolorito means. She simply states "everything has been arranged as [he] desired," he lets out an exasperated... grunt(?) and the scene fades to black. I don't think he's dissatisfied with the handmaiden, but that something in his plans went awry - possibly Teledji mouthing off and getting himself killed, as we've examined.

Perhaps the actions of the scions with the help of GC to defeat Gaius and co emboldened the monetarist/Lolorito to do what they did, especially in light of Omega weapon.

The defeat of both the 7th and 14th division in the last 5 (?) years made them realize that - while powerful- strategy and cunning can defeat them. With Omega right in their doorstep then perhaps they hope to go against Garlemald should need be. The other city-states will begrudgingly agree since it's the lesser of the 2 evils + it'll be the closest to status quo
