I think they know, but they just can't help but to "contribute" to these threads in a serious way just to show off they know the game. It's like this thought goes through their mind:

When it bites, don't just pull it right off. Give a little fight, like the fish is in control, like the fish knows better. Then when it least expects, pull it as fast as you can and say it was all a joke and they just got baited. Sell your trophy on the MB for 100m. Ez profit.
