Gold medal by character names??

But it looks like gold medal isn't just for Likes, either, because there are a few posters above with only gold medals.

Okay here it is. The "medals" are actually made up of two parts:

Any number (0~X) of single gold medals, they're called "kin"s:
Plus a number of gold+silver that makes up 1~10, they're calls "postrank"s:

Relationship between number of posts and medals:
24 = postrank 3
96 = postrank 5
119 = postrank 6
120 = postrank 6
266 = postrank 7
291 = postrank 7
381 = kin + postrank 7
472 = kin + kin + postrank 7
595 = kin + postrank 8
771 = kin + kin + postrank 8
930 = kin + postrank 8
1124 = kin + postrank 9
1289 = kin + kin + postrank 9
1373 = kin + kin + postrank 9
2605 = kin + postrank 10
4808 = kin + kin + kin + kin + postrank 10

It's clear that the "kin" part is not dependent on the post count, but the postrank part is clearly just used to represent the post count.

Most likely As proven in the thread earlier, the "kin" part is based on the number of likes you getgave. It's just that for postrank 5~10 you also get gold medals, so it can seem confusing.

Another evidence is that after you post a reply (or edit a post), the website dynamically adds your reply to the page, at this time, it has no access to your "kin" data so you will only see your own postcount as medals. You also can't see your portrait. When you refresh the page, it gets access to the kin data and displays those kin medals (as well as your portrait).
