Have you ever seen any opening for any japanese game, like ever? They always contain tons of spoilers.I am not off the mark though, I am 100% correct in that putting spoilers in a trailer is a terrible move from a business standpoint, and the spoiler warning only makes it worse in that regard because it will turn away a good chunk of potential buyers.
You are all just looking at this from the player's perspective, repeating over and over that oh, there's a spoiler warning so it's okay! That's called missing the point. But it's okay, my message clearly wasn't for your ears anyway.
They are typically also quite meaningless for new players since they dont know the characters, or how to interpret whats being shown.
This is true, and that's why I never watch those until after I beat the game.
However, Heavensward's "opening" is not just that - it is also supposed to serve as the primary trailer and crowd-puller for the game.
FF14 wasn't even on my radar until the "End of an Era" trailer was released. It sold me on the game.
However, if it was preceded by an ominous spoiler warning, I wouldn't have watched it, and likely never bought the game.
This is what so many of you fail to understand.
SpookyGhost is the only one who "gets it" so far.
On the contrary. It's quite obvious what you're getting at. About as obvious as an 8 second warning at the opening of the video warning people about spoilers. We "get" what you're saying just fine. We just completely disagree. You are not by default "right" here and those of us who disagree with you are not by default "wrong" either. Try to remember that this is your opinion and that our disagreement is not a sign of us failing to understand. Don't start painting people with the "your wrong" brush with little offhand statements like these. All that does is create a divisive and argumentative conversation.
The pre-title screen ones? Of course. If I had watched the openings for games like Nier or Tales of Symphonia or even Chrono Trigger before playing them, the entire experience would be ruined for me.
Also again a high five to SpookyGhost for being the one sane man here. To be honest, I should have expected the majority reaction to this thread since this is an MMO and MMO playerbases aren't exactly known for caring about story, spoilers or the developer's business strategy. These are the same people who populate a game where most people will actually tell you to skip cutscenes the first time in a dungeon after all.

Except for the fact you're choosing to ignore posts that actually give proper reasons as to why its like this. Then again, I like being insane if it means I'm not choosing to be ignorant and only looking for attention. I already gave my point, as did others, have fun with whatever it is you are trying to do.The pre-title screen ones? Of course. If I had watched the openings for games like Nier or Tales of Symphonia or even Chrono Trigger before playing them, the entire experience would be ruined for me.

I play games for their story most of the time. Considering how most game openings tend to be timed to hype you up for the story, and often played after the intro; it makes no sense to skip them, imo.
The localization team has it correct I'd say. Trailer is usually the same thing as the opening (+ possible added text/etc) for japanese games.
In fact the opening having spoilers is precisely what makes them interesting for new players.

I don't understand you said from watching the end of an era trailer you were sold on the game. And I'm guessing that you've continued playing right up to the conclusion of the current storyline. This is true, and that's why I never watch those until after I beat the game.

Isn't it contradictory now to turn around and say that people would be turned off the game by spoilers when that's how you were drawn in?
