Agreed, if only because I bet a fc member that they would start at level 1. and he bet 30.
Because I lost, I have to zodiac bard.

Doesn't this mean if you are freshly off the boat, you'll still have to play a class until you unlock the jobs? I can't see them straight up give you level 30 when you just start subbing the game.
Yep! Newbies can't roll DRK at character creation, pretty much. It's kind of like advanced jobs in FFXI - requires expansion, and you must be level 30 in something before you can flag.
Yes obviously we will have to level to 30 at least to unlock them ( if not unlock the entrance to Ishgard )
Also another reason I welcome this is that possibly, their skills will not be trimmed down when it comes to level sync in pre-brayflox dungeons. Honestly, there's nothing more atrocious than playing DRG, BLM (or any class really...) when you have to level sync to anything lower than toto-rak. It just becomes a challenge of staying awake when you're mashing impulse drive.
if you want to be TECHNICAL, you don't really level JOBS from 30-50 either, playing WAR gives MRD exp, and DRG gives LNC exp.
that being said, though, I was hoping for some lore at levels 1, 5, 10, 15, etc through to 60 on the new jobs, I love me some stories, but I'm perfectly fine with this, It's like playing a Death Knight on WoW (starts at 50, was released when 80 was the max level). Though I trust SE to handle this a lot better. It's still face-palm worthy when you get a brand new DK on WoW in your dungeon roulette.

This doesn't mean that their skills won't be trimmed down when level synced. Sure, they will start at 30, but that doesn't mean that their skills won't have a level below it attached to them for level sync purposes. Also another reason I welcome this is that possibly, their skills will not be trimmed down when it comes to level sync in pre-brayflox dungeons. On the topic at large, I'm fine with the level 30 start. I would have dreaded/hated it if they started at 50 so 30 is a nice cap for me. 30 provides just enough skills to avoid overwhelming.
edit: Never try to type while also fishing and watching Daredevil.

I'm a little disappointed that the new jobs start at level 30. I would have preferred them to start at level 1.
However, I wish that Yoshida spent a little time explaining the reasoning beyond this decision.
To be perfectly fair, there were a number of this I wish he spent a little more time on. =\
There is already a very good explanation for why the new jobs start at 30: All jobs start at 30. These aren't classes, which start at 1.
If they add new classes, they will probably start at lvl 1.
I'm completely ok starting at level 30.
